Planning on using mine, then again, how may miles per day will also dictate whether you want to do the drive everyday. Maybe half time with the murdercycle. Half with the "Ragtop".

My daily commute is 50 miles, 40 of that on Interstate, so I doubt I'll be driving the '56 to work very much. Plus, I have a company Cherokee, company-paid gas, and I'm on-call all the time and may have to head off across state at any given time, so I can't really drive a personal vehicle anyway.

I do plan to use it a lot locally as a "runabout", and on weekend trips when I'm not in a hurry or on the Interstate. It's going to be strictly for fun. "Hey, there goes that old guy in the old red Jeep again, with his beagle and sunburned head!"

Why is a CJ5 uncomfortable over long distaces? I am abt to pick up a CJ in LA and drive 2500 miles to Atlanta over 6 days. Am I crazy?

I've never found mine to be too uncomfortable in my 220 mile a week commute... just a lack of modern conveniences. 400+ miles a day for six straight days I've never done... Drove mine from San Diego to Reno (and back) once. Took me about 11 hours with stops to get there and it wasn't too painful... did wear ear plugs for the last 4 hours though!

Several years ago I drove my Tux from Medford Or. to Macon Ga. and pulling a trailer. Small trailer it was but had it loaded. Sure didn't get into any hurries. I think it took me about 6 days. Been a long time ago tho. Didnt really mind the drive. Got tired of the white line tho..

  8. I share with my J10, but the '71 CJ gets the most use 17 to 20 MPG. The J10 only half that, though more comfortable. My 2 cents.

Drive it around 30-40 miles a day, and around 20mpg if I stay below 45mph. Wouldnt drive anything else if I was given the chance, (I did after all trade a 97 4.0 wrangler which I put alot of time/money/modifications into for my 56 cj5 straight up)

I drive my '62 every day-- have been for about 9 months now.

My best mileage is 24, on the highway. that's doing 55-60 (it has a Warn OD)

As far as what it's like-- it is a FIRM ride, but it is a blast. It turns on a dime and the 5.38 axle gears make rowing through the trans alot of fun. I have to say, my kidneys are starting to feel it, but there is nothing like scootin' around with the windshield down! :)

I've been driving my '74 CJ5 as a DD all summer, always topluss. Drive it to work, out to play and just to drive it for kicks. So far I've logged over 3500 miles and going strong. You know, I've not yet checked the mileage once, I just don't care!
