Got the drivers side in…need to order parts to move my steering by adding universal joint and support bearing. Everything takes twice as long with my bum knee, except drinking beer. IMG_2248.jpg

We finally had a break from rain that lined up with my day off.
Changing of the knuckle water on the spare axle.

First to get the old wheels off the axle, thank goodness I decided to leave all my toys at work.
Got my best home ratchet and some scrap metal off a screen door to break the lug nuts loose.

Spend a minute admiring the webs and spiders while the water drains.

If you ask for knuckle water at the FLAPS, do they ask what year it's for?

Of course we do. We wouldn't want to sell you the wrong knuckle water. But I need to know if it's a Tuxedo Park, or a Renegade package first.

The ‘53 Willys wagon has Brennan’s disc brake adapters on it, so the calipers are metric (aren’t they all, these days?). The two front brake hoses are for a Saab of some sort - they’re the right length, have the correct banjo fitting and will take a 3/16” line at the upper end (if it has a M10-1.0 nut, that is).

However, the old spring clips don’t fit, and the groove for it is in the wrong place anyway. I’d have to fab a new mount out of really thin material and get new clips. So…

I used a 5/8-11 die to cut threads on the round portion of the hose end fitting. Once in the bracket, a thin jam nut will hold it in place! My wife thinks I’m a genius; please don’t correct her.

Finished up the timing set installation on the YJ today. I've got ANOTHER fuel leak from the new pump installation. So I'll have to once again drop the tank down partially to get to the top and figure out what's leaking. I may have to double clamp the pressure line. One of the great things about the XJ's from this time frame are the fuel pump assemblies are mounted in the front of the tank and have a 90 degree device inside to put everything down in the fuel sump, so there is no need to drop the tank on a pre 96 XJ to repair a fuel pump issue or replace lines.

Well…..as always every new project starts 3 more….ie project creep.
I had to remove my ARP exhaust studs to get the headers on , also couldn’t get wrench on drivers lower middle and lower rear bolt. I’ve been running the studs for at least the last 8 years and have had zero issues with them coming loose, before that I was constantly tightening the old bolts. Let’s hope the new bolts work well.
    IMG_2269.jpg ,
I then addressed the steering issue, had to install a support bearing and cut the shaft to add second universal joint.

I then had to remove the old brake lines. I’ve hated these since I put them in. I’ll make new ones tomorrow, if I can walk.

If you look at the 3rd pic it isn’t as close as looks, just under 1/2” clearance.

It’s amazing how much needs redoing just by moving exhaust from outside frame to inside the frame.

It seems like each mod requires 3-4 other mods to work. Are you doing a crossover or dual exhaust?
