I am going to have to swap out my muffler since the dana 20 is now going to interfere with the current one. So I am going to need a quiet muffler but also in a compact size. I know that is asking alot, but does anyone have any preference for mufflers? I was looknig throguh the Summit catalog, but most seem to be "high performance" loud glass packs. I did find a brand, but it was about $160 for the muffler :(

So what have you guys done?? OR maybe a muffler with a good tone, but not overly loud, but still compact. I will have to measure tongiht to see what size i need.

14 or 15 inch "Raptor" mufflers. Under 20 bucks each. They are oval shaped with offset intake and exhaust pipes. They aren't too loud with headers, much better than glasspacks. They could be quieter IMO though.

I'm running a Flowmaster. It's not loud at all. On the Dauntless I just picked up a cheapo car muffler. Small quiet and cheap. Just what I wanted.

I have these attached to my header mufflers and they are pretty quiet and well priced. Also if they get any damage there cheap to replace

That is a cool muffler. Do they make it in a straight throguh design?? Looking at my setup, it seems a straightthroguh setup would work great.

I like Flow Masters. They sound good without being loud.

My Flowmasters on the V6 seem pretty loud IMO. I traded sound level for strength and longevity, though I haven't rubbed them hard on anything.....yet. :flag:

FWIW Dan i think on my 3b I am going to use a supertrapp to save space and floorboard heat. It will be easier to build an aluminum heat shield for the pipe to keep from melting my feet.

3 chamber 50 series Flowmasters should be fairly quiet and have a nice tone to them

Re: What is the quietest and smalled muffler??

Mine are exactly like that... but I got them at Pep Boys last time... I think they were Thrush Turbo mufflers and were ~$17 each...
I run a 90 degree pipe right out of the muffler to exit in front of the rear tires. The offset helps to allow a good 90 bend but not extend beyond the side of the tub.

Mine is a alot like Lynn's. I bought "Turbo II"s from Auto Zone, made by Cherry Bomb(Maremont). They are pretty small, and do a pretty good job, IMO..

Dan, I have one of these available. 4x9 oval. We do alot of relationship marketing with Magnaflow and even dyno-tested a bunch of performance mufflers on our company vans. Best results was the Magnaflow. It is a flow-through design and built tough. My 5.3 V8 now sounds like a big-block :D

I bought a pair used from a guy with a V8 CJ7. He went to Flowmasters thinking they were superior (even though our dyno tests say the opposite). These run $70 at Summit. I only need 1 for my setup. $25 if you want it. 8)

    Thanks Jon,
But i am still trying to quiet the motor down, i think the magnaflow will make it loud again. the cheapy muffler on it now is quiet, could even go quieter :)

Flowmasters look a bit loud also. I am curios about the Raptors. Never heard of them.

I have some god awful mufflers on speedy. I need a quieter alternative as well. I'll start snooping around and see what I come up with.

I think the cheapies I have are 2" outlet. I like that because it helps maintain a bit of back pressure, and that pressure helps ensure that my rig doesn't stall out when both exhaust pipes are under water... R)
