PTO drive shafts

I have a 1970 Cj 5 that came with a PTO winch. Sad thing is it didn't come with any of the running gear. After I move the steering gear box back. I would like to redo the front bumper and reconnect the winch. I have tried to search and haven't found much on this subject. So I guess I should get to the question. Has anyone been in the position? Where can I source parts for the PTO drive train. ( front and rear) ? Anyone have some good pictures of the original setup?

 

Ok. I will take some pics tonight and try to update this thread. The theme or this jeep is two stay as factory as I can.

 

I've got an original PTO winch, fully operational. Give me a couple of days and I'll post some photos.

You will need the pto unit that runs off the transfer case also if you do not have it.

 

Look for a place that up-fits trucks. They would put dump bodies, wrecker bodies, etc. on cab chassis. These big trucks have PTO run accessories, they would able to give a source for u-joints, shafts.

 

Got my u-joints etc super-cheap here. Depends on what is available at the time.

wow.. Thanks a lot. That helps! Looks like I am missing some brackets But one heck of a starting point.

 

curious if you PETEL have the measurement you used and what thickness. My jeep came with everything but the drive shaft. They removed the winch because they moved the steering box there.

 

I was using parts from the dump, and some 3/4" inch shaft on 1" u-joints - had to cobble up some sleeves, and use roll-pins instead of keys.
Worked for me but I can't really advise you.

Koenig Winch factory specs were for a 7/8" shaft and u-joints with 1/4" keys. BUT but the winch u-joint had a 3/16" key on one end, and the PTO u-joint had one end of 1" diameter with a 1/4" key.
Front shaft 30-1/2" long, rear shaft 19" long.

I would suggest not cutting anything to length until you verify the fit on your vehicle.
