I did a search on this but couldn't find what I was looking for.
1967 Jeep CJ5 that "had' a heater box attached on the left side of the firewall. Everything is long gone and I have tried in vain to find anyone selling a reproduction.
Does anyone have a source for these?

That may be due to the fact they were TERRIBLE heaters. Best replaced with the ones from mojave or summit of the same design.

This. If doing a "correct" restoration put an ad in the classifieds. They come up fairly frequently as people upgrade. The most difficult part to find is an unbroken control panel with functioning switches/controls.

You can significantly improve the stock heater function by upgrading the blower motor.

But if you don't have the stock heater at all I'd just get one of the aftermarket ones as Warloch suggested.

Edit-that link isn't going where I want it to go....click on that and then on the repair info link, that shows the procedure I used to upgrade my stock heater.

The stock heater tends to sit there, taking up space and making noise but little heat. If you aren't needing to do a restoration, get one of the mentioned aftermarket heaters. Then consider using the open space where the original heater used to sit and put in hanging pedals

I did the blower modification to my original one... made a huge difference in the volume of air, but when its cold out the air just wouldn't get very warm (with the F134 anyway). I now use a small heater from a combine mounted between the seats. It works great, but no defrost option.

One thing I've found with mine is that engine temp is very important. ...you need 180-190 degrees to get hot air out of it.

This seems to be the overall consensus on the original heater. Explains why nobody is reproducing them.
I looked at the Summit box and vent system. Is this what most are using?
If so does anyone have pictures of the installed unit?

That's a nice clean installation, I have the same heater waiting to be installed in my 3B. Any issues bleeding the system?

I got mine out of a mid to late 70's postal jeep. The ones that have the heater on the drivers side are the same at least the part in front of the firewall.
I just needed a core that didn't leak but used the whole housing.

I just threw a stock heater in the scrap yard. Couldn't give it away on here. Like everyone else says, get the Mojave heater or some other aftermarket if you want to be warm at all

I just bought a VintageAir through Summit. The thing I liked over some of the other heaters, I can have it on defrost only, or heat only, or both at the same time. Everything except the heater hose to the heatercore was included in the kit. The part number I bought, # VTA-506101. The price was $228.97 with free shipping.

One of the best "upgrades" is an early Bronco heater box (early Ford pickup boxes work nicely as well). These mount to right side firewall and tuck under the dash nicely. They also provide working defrosters for your ECJ. I have run one in my Jeep for over twenty years and it has worked flawlessly. Unfortunately, much like the Bronco's themselves, these have become worth their weight in gold.

Thanks for all the replies and suggestions. Having tossed this thing around for awhile I have decided the Jeep has too many modifications already to worry about going back stock. Especially in light of freezing to death because the stock heaters don't work well.
I will check out the Vintage Air system mentioned above.

I just pulled the box with core. Core doesn't leak because it was still plumbed into the engine but I don't know if it is any good. The grille to box duct was missing. I also have the underdash box and blower if interested...

Just a thought. On the Summit web site, you can look at the installation PDF.on each of the heaters. The Vintage-air sure is simple and compact!
