On a 1970 CJ5 the heater box in the engine compartment and I guess it connects to the parts under the dash. The jeep does not have one so I am guessing. What past years will work in the 70?

wish I could help you on years. I've got a '67, and just finished removing all of that for an aftermarket heater.

I've still not figured out how to post pics, so if you want some, send me your e-mail addy.

'71 back to around '57ish. There were some minor changes like the controls from the very early years but overall most parts interchange.

Here's all the stuff from a '70 heater. My advice-sell it to someone doing a historic restore and get a summit heater. I'm on vaca now and drove Pete up to Idaho last week in the below zero blizzard that hit ID and MT really hard. Stayed comfortable (w/ softtop) the whole way. We're in CO now after leaving last night from ID in another blizzard down I95. Temp was around 28-34 most of the way and had to shut it down to low w/ the vents closed just so we had defrost. Throwed in a pic of the summit heater for g&g.
Inside stuff + fresh air hose

Air box (sorry only one I had)

    Very nice Grannyscj.
I was mocking up the one I got for the Daughter's '70 today and decided to mount it in exactly the same place you have yours. Good to have confirmation it can work before mounting!

What did you use for a heater control valve? I was thinking one inside the cab with a simple cable for control so I don't have to route it through the firewall...

I had a '69 a few years ago. Got tired of the stock heater. I installed an early 60's Ford Econoline heater mounted right in the center of the inside firewall over the transmission tunnel. Ducted it to the defrosters, and it already had side discharge heat. It worked great, and would defrost all the way to the top of the windshield and heat entire interior.

I just have a inline ball valve in the engine compartment. So no real temp control other than fan speed. I set up the driver's side w the T to the defroster so if low isn't low enough, I shut off the vent and direct all from that side to the defroster, while leaving the pass side alone.

It's a great little heater. She'll love it.

The '59 '5 has one from a late 70's Datsun PU. It works pretty good also. Mounted on the passenger side above their feet behind the dash and glove box. I installed it around '92 'cause I got it for free from a truck that was being parted due to rust. Kinda bulky though

I believe Barney,s jeep parts LLc, might have some in stock. I have the stock heater control with the three buttons , slide for heat . but the fan control knob & switch is missing.
