I was shocked to find out a new replacement radiator was $525.00. Does any one have different suggestions? I was told that to recore the original radiator would be even more expensive. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Wow! Where'd you get those prices from? Have you checked with Walck's?

I got extremely lucky, and scored a NOS radiator from another member here for $50 + shipping. It's still in the original Willys box! Absolutely identical to my old one, and spotless clean inside, never had water in it. A once in a lifetime score. And yes, I'm going to install it in my CJ5 when the time comes! It will be used.

Shop around. A recore ought to be more reasonable, and worthwhile in my opinion since the old radiator tanks were thick heavy-duty brass.

Can your core be solder-repaired? The originals are pretty tough if you can patch it.

Or heck, at that kind of price, you could buy a whole parts jeep...

Check on a radiator for a DJ model. I bought one that fit with drilling 4 mounting holes.
Worked great and it was around 2 hundred, new................

Pick up a 1964 to 1966 mustang radiator. What I understand it bolts right up. Theres two versions one for v8 and one for L6. The only difference in the two is location of inlet/outlet. Just do a search.
You can pick one up for about $100 to $150. At the local parts store (O'Reillys and such) or go on eBay.

It doesn't quite bolt up. At least, the one I picked up for my CJ5 didn't. I found that if I wanted the radiator to line up correctly with the 'tunnel' behind the grill, I had to drill a couple of holes. But, beyond that, yes, the '64-66 Mustang/'61-66 Falcon radiator works just fine for a lot less than the reproduction Jeep radiators.

Stock would have been an F-head.

RockAuto parts: #8011463 and #CU1463. Less than $140 each for 1960 to 1965 Ford Falcon (and Mustang) small six.

Thanks for the responses. It is a 4 cylinder. I found a local radiator shop that has a reputation that will look at it this week, flush it and determine whether it can be repaired or needs a new core. Said a new core would be $150.00-$200.00. I think I will go that route. Thanks again.

As Nickmil said, knowing where you live might help in the search.
I've got a radiator in my garage that's been converted for a V6, was in a 3B, easily converted back to a 4 cyl application but not knowing where you live, I suppose I'll just keep tripping over it. yes, no leaks
It's not something I realy want to ship, too much chance of damage in transit.
Back to the initial point, please list your location.
How many times have we mentioned this?

I'd vote for that, if its feasible. Original will be correct for "collector" value, and the old stuff was better quality than a new item. "Rodding" or Re-core may last longer than a replacement.
