I finally got the trans pulled apart. I have looked at buying the parts and according to add at walcks, the gear cluster to go with the 16 tooth input gear, should have 35 teeth not 33. I am getting more confused by the day. I counted the input shaft gear many times and it is 16. Is that the root cause of my problem. I will check my other parts, I only had the two t-90's, pretty sure I didn't put the wrong cluster in. The other one had 18 teeth and it wouldn't have fit with this cluster anyway.

OOuch!! yeah you have some issues there. the t90c has 35 tooth driven gear, resulting in a 3.34:1 first gear and a 1.85:1 second gear. That is for your 16 tooth input gear. the t90a has a 33 tooth driven gear, resulting in a 2.79:1 first gear and a 1.55:1 second gear.this is for the 18 tooth input gear.

I went out to shed and dug out other transmission and it also has a 33 tooth gear. That means the gears where wrong when I pulled them out. This is other gear... [IMG][/IMG]

Well I have no other options, the jeep must go on. I will be purchasing a new input shaft/gear 16 tooth, new 35 tooth gear cluster, and small parts kit. I have been looking and found many vendors. Some on ebay, Walcks, and Crown. Has anyone had experience one way or another? It was said Omix Ada may not be the best choice... why? Prices looked good... or is it you get what you pay for... I guess I am asking for is experiences. Thanks in advance.

Lets just say Omix-Ada doesn't have the best reputation for quality. Do a search here. Lots of discussion on the subject.

PM me with specifics on what you need - I have a tub full of T90 parts that are good quality. I have sold several sets recently, so I'll do some digging this weekend if you want.

I'd search around for good used factory parts- there's been a lot of issues reported with reproductions.

Thanks for all the support and it sounds like original still usable parts are out there. I just have trouble putting 50 year old parts back in when I can have new. I just need to find quality parts and not pay a fortune for them. May be this is asking a lot...
I have found a online store that has all the parts I think I will need. Has anyone gotten any parts from Midwest Jeep Willys? I am hoping someone has had dealings with this vendor and that there parts are of good quality.

I am planning to buy:

Main drive gear, 16 tooth.
Countershaft cluster 35 tooth.
Overhaul kit. Gaskets bearings exc.
Reverse idler gear and shaft.

I talked to herm a while back and he had matched sets of input gears and driven gears for the t90c. might want to give him a shout.

Worloch has treated me really well with the parts I bought from him as well.

If nothing else I have had good luck so far with the crown input gear. I wouldn't put an OMIX ADA part in my transmission.

Thanks for the info. I have been pulling my hair out trying to decide what to do. After doing a little research on threads I am more than a little gun shy about what parts to buy. I was on herms site and my wife was thinking a complete transmission may be the way to go. He has what I want, t-90c, listed for $450.00. I looked at a few sites and parts add up to around 350 to 400 $ for parts. This time of year I don't have a lot of free time, harvest going on. I run a service truck for Deere and don't get a lot of time off keeping combines rolling. I like doing this stuff myself but when it comes to quality issues with parts... this is no fun. I will likely be giving herm a call tomorrow.

Whomever you are thinking of purchasing from, ask them where they are sourcing their parts, especially the hard parts like gears and shafts...

Well I broke down and purchased all the parts I need hopefully. I was able to locate input shaft gear, gear cluster, reverse idler, reverse slider, and second gear on ebay. They were all described as NOS parts and looked it. Some were not so Purdy but looked functional. I also order a crown small parts kit to put it all together with, the one that comes with the brass sync's. I will be waiting not so patiently at the mailbox.

Hey, I am back on the project. It has been a long drawn out harvest. My wife let me bring all the cleaned up parts into the house and I started putting things together on the living room floor. My wife is pretty cool.

I got all the pieces put together for the top shaft. I cannot get the bottom cluster in with the new thrust washers. I have looked at my fsm and it shows one washer in the front and two in the rear. I am unable put the third washer in on either end. I have tried to put the front one in last. The one washer has two tabs on it and I tried to flatten them a little but that didn't help much. I have not put the needles in the cluster yet was waiting till I knew I could get cluster in.

I promise you they will fit, you should not have to bend any of the tabs to make it fit. take your time with it. one in the front and two in the back.

The cluster I bought was listed as t90 nos 63 and later cluster. I will go out and count the gears in old cluster to make sure that part is right. This cluster has 35 teeth to go with the 16 tooth input shaft gear. Can I just stack the washers after flattening the tabs, or is it real important that the tabs are in there. I think I can put slots in to match the old one.[IMG][/IMG]
