dual mc

    As soon as the weather gets warmer, I would like to finish up my 11" brake upgrade on my 57 cj5. I already did the front axle and what a difference. I am thinking the while the system is dry, I should upgrade to a dual master cylinder. The Herm kit looks like the best option. There has been so much back and forth, in past forum discussions, on the degree of difficulty, I am not sure what I am in for. I am looking for some input before I do it. I know one thing, I should have done it while the body was off.

    R&P just finished prototyping a conversion that may be ready to sell. Looking at the prototype it looks to be a much easier install. Might give them a call at 503-557-8911. I think they just sent one to Australia for a right hand drive Jeep also......

    I did Herm's conversion while I had the body off the frame. Easy to install but would recommend that you get his banjo fitting kit too. Makes attaching the brake lines much easier due to limited space.

    Straight forward install. The only thing that gave me fits was the pushrod. The stock one would not work. Made a new one out of a Wilwood pushrod and a rod end. Getting the length right was tricky. I first had it too long so it had slight pressure on the MC which made the front brakes inop. Slight adjustments make a big difference in pedal height and feel. Lots of trial and error for me.

    :pPic of said prototype. I got to install it on Friday, 4 holes in the frame, bend some new brake lines and find a place on the firewall to mount the remote res.. Since you don't have to cut out the factory MC bracket, its pretty easy to slap in on the grage floor, or to take it back to stock down the road.[​IMG]

    How did the pushrod line up? That seems to be the biggest problem when doing the job

    Straight shot. The bracket is slotted to allow the MC to be moved in/outboard to line up with the included pushrod. Picture shows pushrod without boot on MC.

    Spoke with very nice person at R and P about the unit. It should be available in the next few weeks.He assured me that there will be no push rod issues. I think I will be taking the plunge and buy one. Stay tuned . I will keep you all updated.

    Any idea on $$$?
    Looks like the way to go, I can assume it comes with the pedal bracket too?

    They told me it comes complete. Supposedly nothing needs to be cut off. It also includes a remote fill.

    What are the two studs with nuts sticking out towards the bell housing? Are the brake lines attached there?

    Why you ask?

    I didn't want to cut up the stock MC mount in case someone want to put it back to stock someday, plus I derive a perverse pleasure from finding different ways of doing something :twistedl:

    Does yourss have remote reservoirs Howard? The thing I like about Herms is, it makes it look stock because you can't see the remote reservoirs. I wish I had thought of that Howard. I did save my stock MC plate from when I did mine.

    The remotes came with it but I don't like them (plastc :mad:). I'm fabbing up something a bit "jeepier", I've already replaced the plastic fittings on the cylinder itself with aluminum caps threaded for hose fittings.
