So I have a dana 18 with the 1-1/4" intermediate shaft. I stripped it down to do a Novak master rebuild, and to my surprise, a piece of a bolt tab from the speedo gear housing fell off. It appears to have been that way with all the grease around it, and where the break occurred. So it's time to replace it. Now I found a potential donor, but it has a 1-1/8" intermediate shaft, will this matter? Also which t/c is better. If this donor is in worthy shape, should I just rebuild that one?

I'm guessing you are talking about the rear output housing? Yes they will swap from one case to another no problem. There are two styles, one cast and machined for the park brake and ones that are not so make sure you use the one you need.
IMHO the 1 1/4" intermediate is a better choice as there are more needle bearings used for the intermediate gear. This gives more bearing to shaft and bearing to gear surface. This means better load distribution.

Thanks for that bit of info on the parking brake. The donor is definitely different. Damn! Any suggestions to find another one?
