The pictures will be a little better in the original, as long as it's not dirty and/or dogeared. Image quality degrades some with copying.

The repops I've seen have been just fine though. The '70s and '80s ones are clearly photocopies of the original manuals, and the quality has been ok. The pre-72 versions I've seen have been bound, and looked a little better.

My 72 is a repro and the images are rediculously out of contrast. Some are just black squares with specs of white.

x2. The pics just aren't as good.

If you can get the original I would do that. I have had both. I gave the original to the guy that bought my 65. I then purchased a reprint to take me through 71 from FAXON. I will say that FAXON is a good source. I don't know if the price is comparable but if they say the manual is in good shape, it is.

I prefer to use my repro, rather than get grease and fingerprints in the originals.

But the pictures are good in the repro, which is an early one on glossy paper. I guess you need to find an 'original' repro!

There are some minor differences between '55 and '59 but unless you need it for a correct restoration the '59 manual should work ok for mechanical items. Things like choke and heater controls (if equipped) etc are different.

So uhh what if we scanned a few versions and made them available on the site? Maybe requiring log in? I'd be happy to toss another donation in the pot for that!

Iv'e also been looking for a good reprint or an original for my 58, for a reasonable price. Whatever the donation would be to access pages here, I would be very appreciative!
