My '61 came to me as close to original as you could ever expect, but I'm wondering about the fuel pump. It is a single action (no vacuum) with the glass bowl, similar to earlier models. My vacuum wiper is plumbed to a brass tee at the end of the PCV valve. Has someone messed with this or was this normal? If this is correct, can I use a pump rebuild kit I have seen offered by Kaiser or Walcks that is for the CJ2/CJ3 older style pump? I can post a pic if needed.

As far as I know, all vacuum wiper motors from the factory ran from the fuel pump. I would guess that somebody replaced the fuel pump with a single action and re-plumbed the wiper motor. I don't think you can get an aftermarket dual action fuel pump with the glass bowl, all the ones I was able to find had a solid top on them. That may be why a PO decided to do it that way, he wanted to keep the glass bowl fuel pump.

I am in same boat 'err Jeep. My 56 CJ5 has a glass bowl with a vacuum line feeding the wipers. I too want to keep it all original. Of course the diaphragm is shot in the fuel pump. I do not know why someone is not making a rebuild kit for this??? I want to keep the glass bowl pump. I will probably end up re-plumbing vac line to my wipers as well. I do not like the dual action "New" style pumps. Of course if I plumb it with some nice brass line and polish it, it could look cool as well.

I took my old glass bowl pump apart and I think it can be retrofitted to the new reproduction solid-top fuel pumps. I have not tried but I may try this over the winter. I'm going to attempt to use the parts from the new pump to rebuild my original pump so that I have a functioning glass bowl dual-action pump.

"Of course if I plumb it with some nice brass line and polish it, it could look cool as well." ...Yes, but steel line is less subject to work-hardening and cracking from vibration in a vehicle.

Kits for these certainly used to be available, but maybe that is ancient history.

I rebuilt mine for the '57 restoration project about a year or so ago. Got the rebuild kit from R&P. mine also has the fuel pump and vacuum pump with the glass filter bowl. Not sure where they got it but seemed to work fine.

Walcks has a rebuild kit for the single action pump like used on CJ2s or any without vacuum. they are $45. Here's the description. I may try this and just keep what seems original, maybe with some fancy brass lines (Good idea!)
    From Walcks catalouge:

"This is the fuel pump kit for AC 572 pumps that is used on CJ2A models or could have been used on other 4 cylinder models if the pump has been changed out to a non vacuum fuel pump. The kit has the diaphragm, 2 valves, pump screen, rocker shaft, spring, gaskets and seals. Made in the USA."
