I left the key on on my f head yesterday, the battery died. We tried to bump start it twice with no luck. I charged it up today and now it won't start due to no spark. I check the coil and there was power there while key was on and while cranking. What should I check next? I looked inside the distributor and everything looked good.

If you still have points check them. They could have burnt up.

x2 if you left the key on & the points were closed they're probably fried.

What they said. Condenser may be bad too.

Alright, I just bought new points, condenser, and coil. The continuity was 185 ohms between them when they were closed, so I think that might be the issue. I'll work on it later or tomorrow.

Leaving the key ON with the points closed and running the battery dead will put great stress on not only the coil and condenser (plus burning up the points) but it has also stressed the ballast resistor and possibly the ignition switch. Watch for future failure of these parts. Not saying it will happen immediately but just beware of the possibility.

I sanded the points so that they had .4 ohms, that didn't do it. Then replaced the coil and that was it! I swapped back to my old one to be sure and yep, that was the problem. Thanks for the help guys!

When you run that much current (amps) through the points, the points spring will lose proper tension to close the points on higher rpm's and will cause miss-fire. Just a heads up.
