Does anyone know if the motor mount brackets for the F-head are the same between a 1959 CJ5 and a CJ3B (year unsure)? I'm talking about the metal brackets that were riveted to the frame.

That I know of, all engine swaps need to be measured, double checking the offset and the like.... I'm sure someone here knows more than I do!!! Can you post more information on the build, and lots of pictures!

I don't see why they wouldn't be the same. Did your 3b come with an f head or L head?

3b's came with the F-head. That's why the cowl and hood are taller, to clear the taller engine.

    PM sent to Mike S

Thanks for the responses. There is a set of 3b motor mount brackets for sale in the classified section, but he didn't give the year of the 3b. I asked about fit there, but thought I'd get a better response asking in the right place......is this the right section to ask, please correct me if I am making newbie mistakes.

I don't know, just guessing. But I'd suspect the 3B frame might be different, even with the same (F-Head) engine. The mounts would have to fit at both ends.

As danc9 (Dan) suggested, I thought a picture of what I am looking for would help. Also, some background information on our CJ5 - 1959 CJ5 (Titled), purchased about a year ago from another Wis. person. The definition of a Rat Rod - when we brought it home, it was made from so many different year parts, my dear husband couldn't stop laughing. Our intention is to make it more 1959ish, not a total restore, but closer, safe to drive, and set it up with a rear PTO for agri use. It came with a colorful full Kelly hard top, which has been removed. It came with an aftermarket tub, a CJ hood and some really funky looking (Scout?:?) fenders, all of which are in great shape, (as far as rust), and have been removed. We pulled a 74 buick V6/T86aa/D20 (which was installed at an angle - a rat rod for sure) and have an F-134/T90/D18 to install. There was a problem with this CJ, where the rear axle didn't line up with the wheel wells on the body. Some PO installed the wrong rear springs, so the rear axle doesn't line up with the frame as it should. It has a Dana 30 centered, in the rear so we will be looking for a Dana 44 with the offset driveshaft to allow for the PTO driveshaft and correct springs too.

So I was looking for the F-head brackets.

Well I have a nice picture but don't know how to insert it.:?

Anyway, Mike S has a set of motor mount brackets for me :D , so I won't need to find out if the 3B ones fit. I do know the part numbers are different for this part, between the 3B and the F-134 CJ5. I have parts books for both of them...

    OK here is the picture:

I took this standing in the jeep facing front. You can see the remnants of the original motor brackets on the tops of the frame and on the right side inside frame you can even see a part of the old battery tray mount. Our "strange" tub and fenders will require the battery tray mounted on the firewall like our 67 CJ5 /Dauntless...(yeah - OK, we have more than one CJ....more than two???????)R)R)R)
