Got it set at about 1/8" with the front wheels off the ground. Sound right? Book says max is 3/32. Shouldn't make a difference if it's set with the front wheels in the air or on the ground, should it? I think I never really had it right from the beginning. Not sure but camber seems way off from one side to the other. Not sure JEEP is setting level but, driver side top of tire hangs out way more than the pass side. Not adjustable I know. Just seems odd. I'll take a better look when it's back on the ground. Maybe try to level it then check again.

    I run 1/8"

Is this on a D27? Check your king pins.

Yes, check the king pin bearings. How long have you owned this Jeep? Have you ever been through the front knuckles? Seem like every closed-knuckle Jeep that isn't/wasn't owned by an enthusiast need the front knuckles gone through. They are both high-maintenance and universally neglected.

10-4 on the king pins. They seemed okay by trying to move the tire/wheel while grasping it at the top and bottom. I'm going after the easiest, quickest possibility first. Yes, it's a 27. I swapped it in from another ecj5 about 2 years ago, along with the matching flanged 44 holding 4.88s (OD waiting in the wings). I had a death wobble prior to the swap. I haven't driven it but maybe 20 miles since the swap but, the wobble seemed to have worsened a bit after the swap. Likely a combination of things. I did have a bent tie rod also. I noticed this while replacing the TRE's. Sort of knew I bent it but, never fixed it. May have been the culprit all along.

I'm planning on building another 27 soonish so, I'm hoping I can get by for a while with these repairs. Now that I know what I want in a 27, I will build one to suit when money affords. However, I will not be surprised to find the king pins/bearing are also bad and adding to the death wobble when I finally test drive it. I'll be disappointed because it will change my plans for the Willys Picnic but, not surprised. If the problem persists and I have to go after the bearings, the 27 build will commence.

Gonna get the front tires balanced, drop it off the jack stands and take her for a spin. It's been a while since I've driven her. Can't wait. I've really missed it.

Alway make adjustments with the suspension loaded (weight on the suspension). Then move steering and suspension then recheck.
    1/8" is just fine

If you have the stock 2 piece tie rod, toe will change as the suspension moves up & down. If you have a 1 piece tie rod, it won't.

One old technique is to roll into straight-ahead position on a flat parking lot. Measure between the rims at the front, roll forward a half-turn, then measure again at the same spots on the rims, now at the rear.

Yea, I guess that would be pertinent info, huh? It has the Saginaw manual steering conversion on it.[IMG]

Update: death wobble seems to be gone after the work done and a short jaunt down the road and back. I forgot how, what's the word the kid's are using, ...sketchy, this thing is. Lotta slop. I think I need a new steering box or, rebuild this one. Out of inspection and registration is expired so, I didn't want to wander (pun intended) too far from the house. I will check the toe one more time, adjust my brakes, take care of the paper work and, I'll be ready for the picnic. Some pics below. One of the rig I made for marking the tires, on it's circumference, to measure the toe in. The marked tire. And maybe a third one?[IMG][IMG][IMG]

I have always been told to measure with the weight on the axle, but to lift 1 wheel to make adjustments.

I set everything with both wheels off the ground (jack stands under the frame behind the springs). I checked it again after I set the JEEP back down and it was the same. Test drove and now I will check it again to make sure. Just a few miles and all the paint was off the tires. I can it changing a lot on an IFS equipped vehicle. I dunno. This evening I am adjusting the brakes and rechecking the toe in. We'll see.
