I've seen a fair number of broken cases.
I don't have any friends running Trac Loks.
Friends don't let friends run Trac Loks.

There is some good info here:

    http://www.earlycj5.com/forums/showthread.php?63045-POWR-LOK-Research&highlight=Powr-LOK

    Manual here:

    http://www2.dana.com/pdf/5315-3.pdf

    It's pretty easy to configure.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks Patrick for the info. I don't want to get further into the relative merits of the Yukon vs Spicer and hijack Roger's thread.

All good information. Thanks! I need to talk to oddfirejeeper and see if he will negotiate the price on his 1969 Model 26846X Power Loc.

Received my new "Auburn Gear Pro Series positraction for Dana 44 with 30 spline axles, 3.73 and down" and talked with a local axle guy about rebuilding my diff. He said that limited slip was a piece of junk. I'm wondering if he knows something i don't or if he's full of crapola. I haven't met any of you guys but I trust you more than this guy. I hope i didn't misunderstand and buy the wrong dang posi.
Anyone know a good shop in Texas?

If the Auburn Pro is the all gear drive unit it is NOT a piece of junk. I'd find a new gear guy. If it is the clutch type limited slip (Auburn made those too) it isn't junk but nowhere near as good as the gear drive unit derived from the old Gleason-Torsen units.

Just looked up the one you bought. It's a cone clutch unit that is not rebuildable. Once it wears out, that's it.
Is there any way you can return it or exchange it for the gear drive unit?
It will work fine, and is a little more aggressive than a trac loc, and is a little stronger, but not by leaps and bounds.
I take back what I said about that gear guy.

I need to check the return policy at Randy's. I'll be out shipping but sounds like I goofed and bought the wrong one. Aaagh.

I pulled a Powerlock from a Postal Jeep a few months ago and had a shop install it in my D44 while they were overhauling it. The mechanic told me the unit was in great condition and wouldn't need servicing. He did put safety wire on the bolts and re-torqued them though.

Randy's has a Yukon PD44-3-30-SM Powr-lok for my Dana 44. Pricey and need to research this one.

Did u ask your gear guy his opinion on what "is" a good diff? Chances are he has a good idea and maybe a connection?

My axle guy said I needed a full locker. I think anything that wasn't his idea may be bad. Also, he doesn't sell parts. You either supply it or do without. Got a referral to another shop that may be a better fit with my anal retentive mentality.

I have an Auburn pro series in my Nova, don't even know it's there. The car launches straight, but don't even notice it in the turns. It was a bit grabby for the first week, but it smoothed out pretty quick.

Good choice. You want someone doing the work that will work with you and your needs, not just one-sided.

Not being rebuildable is a draw back to the Auburn, but I doubt you wear it out in the jeep. The Mustang guys pound on them hard at the track and they hold up fairly well. They should be at least a 50k mile part, which on my jeep would probably be 50 more years!
