So I now have a '75 windshield to mount on my '60. The '75 windshield gives me the bottom mount wipers and the taller glass. Because the glass is taller, there is no where to mount the 2 pads that were formally above the glass on the original windshield. These pads are what my hood rested against when I put it up. Where did the '69-'75 hood rest when it was put up? Did it use a rod to hold it up? Any of you guys that converted to this newer style windshield - what are you doing about this?

Intermediates have a hood prop. I don't think it was ever intended that you put the hood against the windshield. The hood has two bumpers that support the windshield when it's folded down though.

My 71 uses a rod to hold it up.

I know that Lynn has TJ hood bumpers mounted on his 71 hood that rest against the WS frame when the hood is up.

I know the '72 to '86 CJ's used a rod to hold up the hood. Not sure about the '68/9 to '71 versions. Nickmil.

There was (unless I'm mistaken) a tall footmans loop in the center of the hood @ the very front.

On the top of the w/s frame there was a receiver latch that this footmans loop latched into when open.

I have the receiver latch but haven't installed it yet. You should see @ the top of your windshield frame right in the center, two bolts spaced about 2.5" apart.

There should be a latch bolted under and to the rear of your passenger seat which the seat latches into to hold it in place. This latch looks just about like the latch I'm talking about.

71 has a prop rod for the hood, there is a canvas strap in the middle of the windshield for holding the windshield down to the hood (footmans loop) when it is folded down. There are 2 foot mans loops off to the side like the intermediates that are a windshield rest. There is no latch on the 71 model windshield. If I don't want to use the prop rod I just lean it against the windshield, no problems after 10 years of doing this, just watch the wind. The 71 windshield is the same tall glass as the intermediates.

Just to add my 2 cents worth, my '70 has the prop rod but my parts '69 doesn't. The '70 also has a hood safety latch. I usually lean the hood carefully against the windshield as well so as to have more room to work. :coffee:

Exactly like my 67. No hood prop for me.

I solved that by installing one TJ hood bumper in the center of my hood. See pics:

Thanks for all the replies. Lynn, I like what you've done. That bumper you put on can be found on a TJ? A TJ is the round headlight wranglers right? '97-present I think?

Yep, sure is. I bought them at the dealer. They come 2 per package, for about $7. I had to drill one hole (I forget what size) to pull the nipple through. I used a caliper to measure the groove in the nipple to determine the hole size. Measured where the hood hit the windshield, measured for center, and drilled. I applied some black silicone to the hole edges to prevent rust. Put the nipple in the hole, grabbed it with pliers, pulled it until it popped into place.

    (OUCH!! :D ) ;)

Just check out any TJ, you'll quickly see how it works.
    HTH, good luck!
