I picked these up from a guy the other day, nice buick and a t-14 gearbox with I assume a dana 20 transfer, with direct output.. Would this have come from a Commando?

From what I can read it seems to be a decent setup, not so sure I like the single transfer shifter....I am looking to put it in a flatty, any thoughts on whether to stick with this setup or get a different offset drive transfer case? Not looking to do any serious power upgrades or huge tires, just a decent little trail rig that still has street manners too. I have a 60 DJ with 2A axles in it and a seized from setting too long Buick, it might just go in that one. It still has the dana 18 in it, not sure how they adapted the V6...

Take it easy on me, I am a 2A stocker guy and this modification and mix and match stuff is new for me.

Most certainly is from a Jeepster. Generally better off to run an 18 unless you were thinking of swapping in a centered rear diff. Never swapped over to an 18, I'm sure someone can enlighten you on that. The Jeepter U pattern shifters can be a bit of a pain but easy enough to convert to twin shift if you wanted to go that route.

A centered rear diff, ya mean like a Postal D44? I did get a 44 with the pile of parts but it was outof a 3B, has tapered shafts. I don't know if it is even any better than a 41 with those tapered shafts and hubs, is it??

That tranny IS stronger than a t-90, correct? (Just trying to figure out if it is worth swapping in to the DJ or if I need to find a good T-90 to put in it instead...Current t-90 is a set up piece of rust. (Stored with shifter off)...

The T-14 is slightly stronger than the T-90 but gears (Internal parts) are more expensive and harder to find for the T-14. If you want to stay with the off-set rear, then you have to change from D-20 to D-18 which requires you to change the T-14 output gear to match the D-18. If you go with the T-90/D-18 you will have to have a T-90 with a input "J" shaft and redrill your bell-housing adapter to match the T-90 pattern.

Much better then any t90. Any centered flanged axle 44 is much better then an offset splined axle. Up to you how you build YOUR Jeep, sometimes free parts are the most expensive in the long run. T- 14 will have a 10 spline output shaft, but will also take any big hole 18 tc. Just have to confirm whether it is a 26 or 29 spline gear before sourcing a tc.

Absolutely......couldn't agree more. Even the "rebuilt" engine on the front of it is gonna get a looksee before it goes in anything. I'm just trying to see what I still need to build my mild trail jeep, Looks like if I use this setup I need a centered diff. Looking for a D44 flanged setup, centered, I guess. Otherwise I will use the t-90 setup I already have in the DJ and the current 2A axles under it. In any case I'm not going racing or trying the hard trails at Moab with it anyway. I like to putt putt down the trail , not go Bonzai! .....

So far out of two slightly hopped up 3A's I have two dead t-90's.... Both were really obvious why when I pulled the shifters. Even in Texas outside storage with no rain protection is not a good idea for an open jeep ...Hopefully this gearbox wasn't left in the rain too long.

Check and see if it not a t86a if you haven't already. My commando came with that and from what I'm hearing they are on the weak side with low parts availability.

It has a metal tag attached by one of the shifter bolts that says T 14A on it...

The transmission in the pic is definitely a T-14. The shifter top bolt pattern is a dead giveaway. The T-86 shares the same bolt pattern as the T-90 which is different from the T-14
