I was thinking wrong pressure plate . does it look flat or is it a short with long fingers

The pressure plate is the standard flat diaphram type.
    its sachs: bbc1874
    Looks like this:

If both the new pressure plate and the old are laid on a flat surface,
The new pressure plate (the sachs one) is slightly taller.

If the throwout bearing goes in far enough to contact the center of the disc, why aren't the fingers on the pressure plate hitting the clutch also? Do you still have your old disc? Have you compared the old to the new disc, specifically the splined center?

The old disk has more hub material on the flywheel side than the new disk and much less on the transmission side.
It looks like the hub ends flush with the springs on the transmission side, whereas the new one has about a half inch.

The overall length of the splines on the old hub is actually slightly longer than the new disk.

I could shorten the transmission side of the spline hub a bit and see if I can get it to work?

Is it possible that the builder who assembled the disc got the splined center in backwards?

    I dont know,
But I think I am going to buy the centerforce disk that is referenced in all of those conversion threads.
Just to give me a known baseline

I am running the same setup as you are, but don't remember any of those marks. I'll be pulling mine again (just not sure when) and will look for that as well. Be sure to post which CF clutch part number your going to.

My money is on John being correct with this assessment.

I ordered the Centerforce 384180 Clutch Disc
So I should know in a couple of days if the disc I have is messed up.

In the mean time, I think i am going to put the tranny into the jeep without the disc.
To make sure that the disk is indeed the only thing wrong with the system.

Does this sound like a good idea?

I always do that, but that's me :)

    nickmil In mothballs.

Many of the discs have a slightly thicker hub on one side vs. the other. Very common and in most applications it's no problem. Problems arise because of the thicker 225 heavy flywheel.

I was asking if the fingers on the diaphragm are flat across or do they stick up in the middle where the throw out bearing touches . when it is bolted to flywheel

I really hope that's not the problem as I have 2 of these setups like this. The other one is not running yet or I would probably know by common PITA...

    Thanks for those pics,
My disc definitively has more hub material sticking out than that.
    Did you shave it down?

    Also,
The Pressure plate has flat fingers.
They do not arch up to meet the throwout bearing.

I should have the disk today, I will let you know what I find.

    Thanks for the help!

The fingers on the pressure plate (technically the clutch cover) don't arch up until it's bolted up to the flywheel with the disc in place.

    Wait,
I thought the fingers were arched up by default,
And as you torqued the bolts down, they flattened out.

So when its mounted to the flywheel, the fingers are flat.

The torque flattens them from where they start, but the should NOT be flat.

My bad, you're correct. But as stated, they shouldn't be flat after installed.
