What are the differences between the T-90 and T-96 transmissions? The T-96 looks smaller (probably not as heavy duty?) but how, exactly, are they different?

Different animals altogether. Similar design but completely different trans

T-96 does not have the Texas pattern on the rear. Think it's design is for 2 wheel rear drive. I don't believe novak make an adapter for it so it can be used with the D-18 to use in 4wheel conversion. Maybe someone does but can't see the advantage over the T-90.

I've seen the T-96 used in column shift applications on DJ3A 2WD Jeeps. Also seen them used in Cushman scooter (utility truck) type applications. Definitely lighter duty than a T-90.

Thanks. I've got one on a '62 DJ3A, and was just curious how it's different. I think the Jeepsters used them, also, as well as the DJ5's and 6's?

You can't comare the T-90 with the T-98. The T-90 is the standard non synchro 3 speed and the T-98 is a heavy duty 1 ton truck 4 speed with granny low. It is a lot stronger and a lot more compact than a T-90.

More compact? It's about twice the size and three times the weight of a T90..

Once you have lifted a t 98 into a pickup bed you will never forget it heavy!

Until you lift an SM465 - seems so small and light in comparison :) almost like the diff of the T90 to the T98

You're right , don't know what I was thinking when it wrote that. It's the other way around. The T-98 is a monster.
