Dauntless Paint Color Again

I read the entire 15-page thread re the correct color for the Dauntless (from 2007-2008, however, no one currently has Hampsted Green BG11M - I tried ordering it at 5 auto parts stores and no luck.

Does anyone know of a manufacturer of Engine Enamel, now (2010) that stocks a relatively close equivalent of the correct color for my 1970 Dauntless? Eastwood has very good ceramic engine enamels which I have used on my musclecar restos - would the AMC Blue be close?

    Thanks.

Are you sure Auto Zone can't get it for you and also O'rielly's. That is where I got mine early last year. There is also a Honda green that is very close.

Auto Zone cannot order it - I even provided them the part number, and O'Reilly's is still supposed to get back to me on whether they can order it or not.

Have you tried an auto body shop supply wholesaler? We have one near here that will mix any color and put it in a spray can for you for ~$12/can(at least that was the price I paid in 1995 ;) )
I had them mix up some 5B Meduim Green Metallic to match the color painted on the '71.

    The company is BAPS

If your still looking for the Hampsted Green Metallic, #8800906, Dupli-color, import auto spray, 5 oz can. I got mine at Pepboys, but they changed their stock, but you might be able to order from them. You can also try Advance Auto. They also had it.

Unfortunately, there is no Advance Auto in Washington state - I did see that they carry it but they will not ship direct for some reason.

Lynn, I will take your advice and contact my local auto paint store and see what they can do. Who rescreened your speedometer for you? It looks great. I want to get mine rebuilt and rescreened, too.

glad I clicked on this , I can help . my 442 has a very specific bronze color I found this place ,,,,Bill Hirsch # is 1 800- 828-2061 Newark ,N.J.pretty pricey though think it was $14 a can. the enamel is still holding up very well, and has not disscolored at all from heat or gas.

Unbelievable - Pep Boys says they do not stock it and cannot order it. This is turning out to be a real PIA. I'm going to call my local auto paint wholesaler now and see what they can do.

Well, the auto paint wholesaler said without a color code they cannot mix it for me, but with the color code, I am looking at a minimum of $62-65 for one spray can - they charge a one pint minimum for the Centauri paint and then the price to put it into the rattle can. This suks. I think I will call Duplicolor and ask them why their distributors cannot order one of their current products. I may as well paint the damn thing red so it matches my exterior color. :-(

Just a late update ... O'Reilly's finally came through for me and special-ordered the paint. At first they told me know, but an employee kept bird-dogging it for me - it took over 3 weeks.

Would you please post the part # they gave you on the O'Reilly receipt? That would help me with my local guy for special order.

    Thanks.

You might try Original Parts Group Inc.. They have the correct paint for the early Dauntless 64-67 (Buick's original color).

BJHitson60, I would never deal with Original Parts Group. After restoring seven musclecars they are definitely on my "$hit list". They sell crap parts, know very little, and have a real attitude problem when it comes to customer service.

Mark, the part number on my O'Reilly receipt is BHA0906.

Hampstead green is a Honda car color and Alpine Green is not even close to the right color, but if you can't get it, you can't get it. I told the engine shop not to paint it, but they did anyway in that Alpine Green. I painted over it with the Hampstead. This was back in probably March '09. I used probably 6 of those little Duplicolor cans. Course, back then, every part store had them in stock

    Alpine Green isn't even close.
Maybe a few early Dauntless were supposedly painted Buick blue, but every original chip I've seen is more of a mint green color.
Other than the special mix paint from that thread we had a couple years ago, Hampstead Green is the closest I've seen.
Don't mess with Duplicolor, just get a can mixed out of the DuPont book at a store like Oreilly's.

How has the paint held up on the engine? Any issues with the paint not being a high temp paint on the engine?

    Thanks
