I bought a steering box, column, and linkage from a 93 cherokee. I plan on putting in my 56 cj. I have done a search and saw everone's pics. This box has a drop pitman. Does anyone have a advice before I start?
My jeep is a bit different, has a 3.9 dodge v-6. I had to bump back the firewall , so I made a 3 inch "box" that follows the original bump in contour.
Can I keep the drop arm, or is there a straight arm for the cherokee?

    thanks

    nickmil In mothballs.

Whether you need the dropped pitman arm or not depends on lift/suspension/front axle you are running. More info needed here. The best bet is to mount it up and see. You can use a Pitman arm from a power steering CJ if you need one with no/less drop. A lot of the "dropped" pitman arms for sale on the internet are literally nothing more than an XJ stock pitman arm.

Thats where I get all my dropped pitmans.

That's interesting. It has no lift as yet, except that I mounted the body 1.5 inches above stock. I used 1.5 x 3 tubing welded on top of the frame out to the edge of the body. The cage will mount to pads welded on the tubing, through a rubber pad, through the body and to the cage.
So, no lift as far as the steering is concerned. What about the column? anything to watch out for?
