Unfortunately it doesn't matter now, the input shaft is 1 3/4" too long :( Truck version. Shame on me for buying in the dark and not bringing a tape.[FACE PALM]

But luckily I only paid about what a good used D20 is worth so the deal isnt a total loss.
Still, I'm super bummed to not be able to use the 4 speed.

Little more work, but pull the input and have it turned down and shortened. Shouldn't cost more than $50 at a machine shop. Good opportunity to put new seals in the trans as well. Now if it was an inch and a half too short...that's a problem.

Well I'm half way there the input is all ready pulled.. I didn't even really consider that as an option but it makes sense.

    Ill call around Monday.

Chuck, any suggestions on where to go?

Contact Lee's Machine shop - if they can not do it - they will point you to a good guy for it. That is who I use for as much as I can. Great shop, great guys and alot of the race teams use them... And they have good prices for the work.

Would you mind posting up the dimensions for the proper short CJ input shaft once you have it machined. Could be useful for the rest of us.

Sure if I can figure it out myself, I have gotten varying info from a couple different sites.

Novak says 7.4" of stick out, but measured from where? When I called over there to find out, the guy I talked too was all ****y and not much help.

I'm guessing its from the face of the trans with no bell housing on but need to confirm.

Thanks for the info, Chuck ill give them a ring.

Looks like you could measure if you have a T90 and bellhousing. Just mock up the T18 and adapter on its bellhousing. Calculate the same amount of stick out into the pilot bushing.

Just curious, why a T90 bell housing?

I believe Clint had his machined down - you might check with him. What/how are you putting this on? Is it the inline 6 you got from the Commando? The frame is setup for a 304/360 as that is what was in it that we took out.

Yeah, the inline that I got from the commando and probably a 4.0 later.

I all ready have all the mounts swapped and the drive train in.

I have a T176 bell and throwout fork witch will mount the t-18 to the AMC inline with out any adapters.

Just trying to decide if this is going to be more work than its worth.

That will depend on how long you intend to keep the 4.0 and IF it will need some work adapting to the tranny (don't know as much about the new fangled stuff :) ). If you pull the front input and know it's too long you can match it up with the engine clutch for measurements. If it needs to be the 'Ford' size, those specs are on the Novak site. Might do some google searches too for it.

Ask Nick - he might know off the top of his head as he is a T18 expert.

I just automatically typed T90. Should of said just measure the amount of stickout on your existing trans to determine how much you need to go through the clutch disc.
