I just looked at a '68 commando, all original v6. NO RUST. original paint. Very few dents. Don't know if it runs but it is complete under the hood even with original oil bath aircleaner. The old guy is asking $975. Do I dare pass it up ? I wasn't looking for one.

    Buy it!

You'd get that much for a rust-free tub alone!

    I'd buy it.

Keep in mind Mike he's in California though too.

What would a rust-free Jeepster sell for here in the midwest?

If you could get $2K you could pay to ship the thing and still make a bit.

I was thinking that same thing.

Ask Sean how much one would bring. R)

In my humble opinion, you're getting a great deal. I paid $2,000 for mine (bought it off collectorcartraderonline.com). I had to fly to Oregon and had it shipped back for about $600. Furthermore, the passenger side floor pan was rusted through (and the back pan was somewhat cancerous). However, I'm really pleased with it. 8)

$1,000 for a Commando with little rust is too good to pass up. If you compare this price with that of some of the beaters on E-Bay, many of which go for much more, you'll see what I mean.

Check it out and good luck! ;)

P.S. Even if you have the cheapo 27/30 (front end/rear end) combo as I do (they also had a 30/44 combo), you can sell it or part it out on E-Bay and do pretty well (if you have a 44 w/ fanged axles, even better).

You can also try to unload it on the American Jeepster Club's website too: http://www.off-road.com/jeepster/

    1) Click on "valuable stuff" on the lh-side.
    2) Click on classifieds (if you want to place an ad).

When I've been fiending for hard-to-find parts, I usually go the AJC website first.

    Hope that helps.

Just bought it $900 and even got a complete 231 v6 and a model 20 T-case extra. The dash is unmolested and so is the harness under the dash. It does have 27/30 axles. I got it started and seems to need carburator work but hasn't run in 2 years.

No, that's all he had. He has owned it since 1975 and has really done nothing with it other than drive it.

    Congratulations! :v6:

After a carb rebuild and tune up, I'll bet she runs like a top. When you're cruising around, though, get ready for some funny looks from passers-by and double takes from people rubbing their eyes. ;)

Something odd about Commandos (then again, Bullnoses are even odder)... :D

Jeepsterman I had a beer with Panzer.

Sounds like an excellent deal! Actually tubs are pretty reasnoble right now for some reason. I have seen two in CA for $450 that were rust free. Both of these were actually true convertible tubs. There was just one in Maryland that I tried to buy off ebay that the guy was asking $250. A little rust at the front of the floor pans, but pretty rust free throughout the rest. It was on ebay and a local guy snatched it before I could try and make the deal. I would still buy it though. SOunds like a great Jeep.
