i was checking the tech articles and read up on the np435 conversion. the novak site stated that only a 435 out f a dodge would work withthe fhead engine. does anyone know why this is. i have access to a good 465 out of a chevy. i was wondering why this trans doesnt work w/ the conversion or if anyone has tried this sort of thing.

I'm guessing because of the spline count, diameter, and length of pilot of the input shaft on the Dodge version. Most older Dodge/Chrysler transmissions used a very long input pilot.
Having said that, I have no experience with that particular swap so take this with a grain of salt...

Gee, I didn't think there was any transmission that was suitable for the F134 conversion except the factory T-98. You have a link to this statement?

Wow, that's cool. And something new AFAIK. I hope they sell a few of them and make their development costs back.

Like Nick says, it's likely the Dodge NP435 has a long enough stickout to extend through the F134 bellhousing plus the thickness of the plate adapter. You can test this by measuring the depth of the F134 bell and comparing it to the stickout of your SM465. I expect it will be too short.

Note that Novak also supplies all your clutch parts too... interesting.

Kind of a double-whammy though - you have to buy their engine adapter and their transfer case adapter, plus a Dodge NP435. At that price, I'd think you could throw that much money on the table and someone out there would come up with a complete T-98 setup for sale.

Yeah thats a lot of dough once you add in the T-case adapter.

Well..... Are you talking about a NP435 or SM 465? They aren't the same transmission. I'll be using a NP 435 in my Jeep. Granted, I have the Dauntless, but Novak makes my swap sound easy.

Doesn't Herm the overdrive guy handle something simular?

Herm lists the T-98 with adapter for $1250, no core required. I presume that's for a reconditioned transmission too. Availability could be an issue, but if you wanted one, I'm sure he could come up with one given some time.

Wow, now that's an interesting swap article! At least there is another option now besides a T-98.

I wonder if it's the same t-98 as I have in my military truck? I have a couple of those.

Input shaft is different and if it's an M-715 as I recall those are a divorced transfer case so won't have the correct output shaft or adapter on the back.

I just started doing this swap this weekend. So far I've got the NP435 torn down and its OEM mainshaft swapped with the Novak mainshaft. Things were progressing well until I found the 2nd gear synchronizer spring in 5 pieces stuck to the transmission case magnet. The tranny shifted fine before removing it from the Dodge so I don't know how "crucial" this piece is.

I was originally going to wait until winter late 2009 to do this swap, but my T90 was leaking like a sieve out the front end. When I removed it the front bearing retainer was loose and 2 of the cap screws were almost falling out. :? <--- smilies because I was the one that rebuilt the T90
