Well i am back on track again. i got the mainshaft off and reinstalled my detent balls for the 2/3 clutch hub. Another problem i had before the detent balls went everywhere is tht i was binding when trying to turn the top shaft. it did turn when i was starting the bearings then it didnt stop, and i wasnt fully seated on the bearings. i was thinknig that i had the clutch hub outer ring backwards. Well i have it installed correctly.

My question is, doe sthe reverse idler gear on the bottom of the case have to be forward or backward on the bottom shaft or does it matter?? I was also thinknig this would be a source for the binding.

So other than that i should be done, but i am going to stop for th enight before i get ahead, i was a bit frustrated trying to get the bearings off to remove the mainshaft, but i am good now.

    Thanks!!!!

Tell you what I found in my wagon. Someone had installed the reverse idler gear backwards, so in neutral just touching the shifter made the slider gear hit the teeth on reverse. The gear is designed with the teeth flush with the edge on the back side and the edge of the teeth indented on the forward side. Sounds like that's your question, does that description match your reverse idler gear?

This is the picture from a writeup on rebuilding it.

This is what mine looks like. I was wondering if it could bind if the bearings are just not set all the way,

    Thanks Glenn!!!

Of course the T-90 only has the one gear, but the pic shows how they face. Don't know what to say about the bearing question.

    nickmil In mothballs.

That pic shows the correct orientation of the reverse idler. If you look close the inside of the case is cast with a kind of relief so the larger portion of the gear goes against the back of the case. Nickmil.
