I know it doesn't look like much, but it took quite a bit of measuring, cutting, welding, grinding and tweaking to get my pedals, master cylinder and steering column mounted. I'm pretty happy with the results. I was hoping that the mods wouldn't look much like a modification. I wanted them to blend into the Jeep as much as possible- at least on the interior side of things. The pedals are out of an intermediate CJ5, master cylinder from a 1968 Corvette, column from a DJ, and a few shop-built bits and pieces tossed in the mix. If I'm lucky, the clutch master cylinder will be installed later today.

That brake pedal looks really close to the column? Just an optical illusion? Are you doing 4 wheel disks? As I recall the vette master cylinder works good for that? What clutch system are you using? I would like to add a hyd clutch one day.

Looks good Mike!! Do tell about that brake pedal... will it catch on the column if you need to use the full travel?

As it sits right now, the pedal does hit a little. I mounted the pedals as far to the right as they could possibly go. There is still a little wiggle room to move the column over a hair though I need to put the steering box in before I can figure that one out. If all else fails, I'll just heat and bend the pedal a little.

JeepTherapy- I'm using the Vette MC because I'm running 4 wheel discs. Up to this point, the clutch mechanism was all stock Chevy truck parts. Later model trucks which came equipped with the SM465 trans had a factory hydraulic clutch. My only hangup is that the Chevy clutch MC installs at a compound angle- pointing both down and away from the engine. I thought that I might be easier to use an XJ master in conjunction with the Chevy parts but it looks like it ain't gonna happen. From the beginning I planned to use as many off-the-shelf parts as possible. So far I've been pretty successful doing that, even though it's taking a long time.

The pedals aren't in the way but the rollcage likely will be. I've been planing to put a jog in the downtube so the front bars of the cage will go through the top of the dash at an angle to the floor. I'm not willing to lose the functionality of a glove box because of the cage so if the tube is in the way, I'm going to cut out the box opening and install it on the passenger side. I'll then take the data plate and install it where the glovebox originally was. It'll be a lot of work but I want to stick with the "it could've been original" theme. I think only an A1 owner would know that the data plate and glove box switched places.

Interesting idea. I have some dilemma with my A1. I want to do a cage but not lose the glove box. I think I am going to buy an replacement glove box door and modify it. Cut it so that 3/4 of it opens and the last quarter stays up. We'll see how well I can pull that off...
