Finally an update on my mill I ordered in February.. it shipped from PA this week and is due sometime in the next week or so. Was in Indiana as of today.

So - it has arrived

It will be tough to say if this is going to get setup before my surgery. I hope to unpack it at least prior to not being able to do things.

 

Definatly unpack to make sure. Nothing is damaged.

 

Broke it open to check it out. Things look to be in good shape. The Truck driver (Saia Freight) who delivered it wanted to know more about the company. He says 3/4 of the Grizzly items he delivers, he picks up as they are so damaged in shipping due to not being packed right.

They did a good job packing things, the only issue is the wood crate has been soaked and muddy. Smelled of mold when I took the wrap off. We pulled the wood crate, the mill was in plastic and just fine, but you could see it was wet and raining when it was crated - foot prints in mud on the inside of the panels.

I'll try to get some pics later in the week when I can - got good and bad days with the back...

Its sad that I can't wait to get cut open and get this fixed. Its really putting a dent in my play time.

 

Well - I got the mill unboxed and set on its stand in a "temporary" spot. Not sure it will stay there long term, but its where the Drill Press was and next to the bench is probably the best option.

Now I just need to do some refreshing on how to use these things. I've not touched a Mill or Lathe in over 35 years.

Still plan to get a Lathe - when getting them don't take 6 to 9 months...

 

Thanks, I'll do that. My Granddad had a piece of tin he had built and angled over there on his home made setup with a little tub under it. Never dawned on me why.
I'm debating about it there, or in the other corner... but that requires moving the bolt bins - and more planning than I'm capable of at the moment

 

Now that life is starting to get back to 'normal' post surgery - I decided to finish the purchase plan and order the lathe:

Optional items, tax, shipping and delivery came to @ $4500. Got the larger one than I ordered last year as they are both due in "Late Spring 2022".

I enjoy the fabrication part of things too much to keep missing big parts of it. Should be the last major toy purchase for the shop before retirement. I just tell the wife its cheaper than some hobbies, and she will know where I am - I think she is still trying to figure out if that's a positive

 

Yup - the 1030V with DRO was only $100 more than the 1022V. I got the DRO on the Mill I'm going to try to setup in the next couple weeks and figured I'd just do the same with the lathe.

I'll have to look for the collets - they didn't have them on the site. But I'll need to let the 'budget' rebuild a bit too

And an Update - Lathe has hit the Precision Matthews Floor - they are going to get it ready and then ship to the house. Eta is end of month as I aske them to push it to after the 22nd of March.

Now I just have to find a place to fit it... I thought I would have another month or two
