I bought a Lock Right 2210LR . I received it today & the owner's manual says to pull the cover & determine if I have a 'thin' Ring or 'thick' Ring gear ??? I was led to believe that I did not need to pull the axles to install this unit ? I'm a little bummed that I have to now , in order to install it .
Can anyone please give me a little encouragement on this ? Any way to know , right now, what type ring gear is in this factory differential ??????
Kinda sour grapes here, 'cuz I had them pulled a couple of months ago , when I did my front Disk Conversion.......I do understand that if I have a " thin " ring gear , I leave the case in & only have to pull the opposite side axle ~ 2 inches or so ?
    Thanks,
    Richie

thick ring gears are used when you install a lower gear(high number) ratio gear set on a higher ratio carrier(lower number). If your gears are stock, then I'd say you don't need to remove the carrier. You can also try to remove the gears from the carrier, if you can remove the them you are good to go, install the locker. Good luck, Ron

Just reread your post, you are good to go on a factory gear set, Ron

Thanks, Ron....... I 've got 3.73 Gears in my '75. Question : How thin is " thin " & how thick is
    " thick " ????
Btw, Your gonna like my ' Rosie' , she's pretty much a one of a kind. Look over my albums on here, if your interested.

    nickmil In mothballs.

It’s a case, the carrier is the large cast section the axle tubes are pressed into.
Regarding thick and thin gears, if you can remove the pinion shaft (spider gear shaft) without removing the ring gear you most likely have thin gears. If you have to remove the case and ring gear most likely you have thick gears. The axle shafts must be removed regardless as they spline into the side gears which are replaced by components of the locker.

Rosie's quite impressive, I worked at a buick dealership in the mid 90's. The grand national's were a lot of fun to drive. Ron

A gnx held the burnout record at the last dealership... till we tried a park avenue ultra with the supercharged 3.8. park avenue for the win. That thing would fry the tires till you let off.

I've always wanted to take a rear wheel drive 3800 from a Camaro and add a super charger from an ultra and bolt it in something light weight. But I never acquired enough parts. Ron

I measured a standard thickness dana 30 ring gear, 4.10 ratio, it was 1.20" at the thickest part, plus or minus. Ron

I’m missing the debate? The axles need to slide out far enough that 2” or 2’ is no different, so the spindles are coming off. The case comes out with four bolts, and the ring gear is a few more bolts if needed. I guess I'm unclear on what the question is?

According to MFG.er, I can leave the Case in. I only have to remove the ring gear side axle. Remove the ring gear , while inside the Carrier. , remove spiders & then install locker. No debate really....... just was seeking clarification.

    AMENDED 1/31/2020 :

I wrote down wrong info above. I apologize for my confusion. Attached is PowerTrax Instructions.

    Interesting.
It might just be me, but working inside that tight box sounds like more trouble than just pulling it apart to work on it.

Having done this recently I can't imagine laying on my back and doing this with the case installed. Pull the case and do this on the bench.

I Hear you both......But I do have one ' Tool " at my disposal. I built a 3' 6" wide X 14' long X ~ 6' deep, concrete block 'Pit' about 20 years ago, when I built the Shop. It's visible in the Pic's below. I am pulling the case in the rear D44 & most likely end up doing the same on the front D30.
Like I said , I was lead to believe , by the Lock-Right folks, that the front could be done in ~ 2 hours , case In ? We'll soon see.
Thanks again guys........I'll let you know what transpires, in the next couple of weekends.
