Got around to replacing the tie rods yesterday and the passenger outer that I was sent is too large for the tube. Am I missing something or was I likely sent a wrong part? Replaced both sides, tried the end on both tubes. The threading for the one is larger than the other three.

    nickmil In mothballs.

Most likely the larger threaded unit is or an M38a1. They had a larger diameter threaded shaft than civilian CJ’s.

Sounds good, just heard back from KaiserWillys, they are pretty sure I was sent the wrong part and are express shipping a new one free of charge. Glad to see good customer service still exists.

Follow up on this. Just finished up with installing these. It certainly stiffened the steering but not all the way. Am I likely looking at rebuilding the steering box next or are there are parts I can replace before a rebuilding the steering box?

Everything in the stock steering is subject to wear, do a search here on "death wobble". Best to have someone rock the wheel while you're underneath watching what's happening.

Likely it's a little bit of everything.

Check the bellcrank. That's where most of the slop is in my rig.
