Do we know last year for the bulk rubber roll type flares and first year for the molded fender-specific flares? My 73 Super Jeep had these bulk rubber type. I recall reading somewhere long time back that Super Jeep came from factory with the bulk rubber type, where they'd previously been a dealer-installed item. Anyone know for sure?

    Thanks

I had the cast plastic ones on my '75 in 1975. The rubber flares were all that was available in '73. So somewhere in there ... 1974ish.

Thanks. Mine are a bit chalky and dirty so been hitting them with "No 7" heavy duty rubbing compound. Coming out very nice.

Parts manual shows the rubber listed 72 to 74.

My 74 had the moulded rubber flares with contours, not just cut from a roll.

When I got my Jeep in 71 I never did see any made just for jeeps, but in 72 (AMC) they came out with them and I thought they were neat. However if I remember correct there was something a little bit different about them that they would not fit a pre AMC. So I got a bulk roll from JC Whitney that I had to cut them myself and fit up.
At least that is how my memory seems to be, but after 45 years well--
I still have them and they have held up very well. To be truthful I liked them better then the molded ones because they were softer and if you go close to something they just fold over whereas the molded ones will stay firm and scratch or get hurt much more easy.
This is a picture of them today, still is good shape.

I have some of those brand new, in the original box with the hardware. Trying to decide if I want to use them or sell them ;). The original price tag may have finally fallen off but I think the price was somewhere around $21.99 on closeout for $14.99 or something similar. Definitely from the late '70's or early '80's.

Tempted to put them on Evilbay and see what they would bring at auction.
