What Did You Do To Your Jeep Today?

    Frame tie in for cage completed. Passenger side rocker guard fabbed. PS pump bracket courtesy tarry 99 bolted up. Got some sun and blew the dust off.

    Mainly used when camping, I use it to inflate my mattress, the blower is AC. I also run twinkle lights at night and supplemental light, which is why it's on a separate battery, Just in case.

    cut about a half inch off my front driveshaft slip yoke. It was just too close for comfort. Dont want to wreck my t case

    Well, over the past three days, I picked up two significant pieces for my next long term project, a tub and frame for a CJ6 build. No pics yet, still getting the pieces off loaded, and set up in the barn. Overall, the frame is pretty nice, rear cross member needs replaced, but us very straight, and needs a trip to the sand blaster. The tub, well, that is gonna need a ton of work.

    The frame is AMC era, so it's got the long nose. I plan on finding a '91-95 YJ, and cutting the firewall and floor out of that and replace the floor in the six and then swapping over everything else. Looking for a 4.0ltr donor vehicle. I need something to keep me busy.

    Going against the grain here. After having my tub blasted, repairing gobs of rust and cracks... and having the photos to prove it... I'm not planning on welding any more to the pan. Don't want to mess with it in my remaining lifetime if possible. If I have to weld in repairs, I'm sure I'll cuss a storm about the guy that sprayed this $%^! all over the place...

    I am starting to use a product called Al's Liner HNR (heat and noise reducer) on the 'underside', but since this is a latex type product with a ceramic mix in it, I'm also adding the Bedliner to cover it. BTW: lining the bottom is a PITA, but I figured it out, you have to mix a quart at a time then brush in all the nooks and crannies, then I will come back over it with the spray to blend it like normal bedliner. This is where I'm working on the technique; I can let it run, test how thick to spray, vary the air for texture, etc... it's on the bottom, out of sight.

    SO, brushing it in, learning to spray. It's a mess... but it's starting to look decent. Be forewarned on this one, the paper says 'don't mix more than a half-gallon' if you brush... I say quart batches are about right, as it starts setting when you have about 3oz left to spread (30min to 45min or so). Chuck the brush when you're done, let your mixing pot dry cure, then peel out the layer, and start over tomorrow...

    Front axle is back under the JEEP. Brake lines hooked up. Springs attached and new bushings. New u bolts. Gotta bleed the brakes tomorrow or Thursday, attach shocks, steering components, adjust wheel bearings, install hubs.........got the corn head grease for the knuckles. Gotta get the GL-4 and friction modifier then see if I have a driveshaft laying around that will work........oh yea, gotta change the front yoke on the transfer case to the big one.

    Maiden Voyage for the blue CJ 6 today. Drove it to town to get an inspection sticker. Has paper tags for now. the pics are a few days old, so it they don't show the Skyjacker 2 in. lift. Wow what a difference in the f head in the 3B vs the oddfire in the cj 6. the OD sure makes a difference too.
    couldn't a done it without all you guys on this great forum. Thanks all

    Bled the front brakes, pumped corn head grease into the knuckles, reattached the shocks and tie rod ends. During the process I found......bad master cylinder reservoir gasket, that my shocks are too short and limiting down travel, and one of my urethane bump stops just kinda fell off (hard and brittle after like 20 years or so).

    I also found that Rancho's website blows and that they offer very little support for our old cj5s or their old lift kits for our antiques. I was gonna buy Rancho parts to replace the Rancho parts that are in need of replacement but, they apparently don't have the bump stops anymore. I'll start searching for something else and for some other shock with more travel. But, i really like the RS5000 hydraulic shocks.

    Forgot to get the friction modifier for the front power lock so, filling it will have to wait until next week. Then torque the u bolts, put the wheels/tires back on, adjust the wheel bearings, put the lock outs on, and tune the front brakes. Then, i think, I'm ready turn some figure 8s to work the friction modifier into the clutches. Almost there. Might have a touch of the flu next week.......cough cough, sneeze, cough.

    Oh wait, gotta swap the front output yoke on the transfer case and see if the used driveshaft I found in the garage will work.....at least temporarily.

    Took a drive up the highway a little and ran out of gas 50 yards from the entrance to our property on the return. So I push and wife steered. Gotta get the gauges working. Haven't had to push a vehicle since college days and it was not fun.

    I bought a non-running 72 cj5 a little over a year ago. Got running, and drove it intermittently, but it's mainly collected dust in the garage. PO had put a 401 in place of the 304, but it isn't in good shape. Smokes like a freight train. I've been waiting patiently for the day I could start tearing it apart, (I coach two daughter's softball teams), our last tournament for the year ended about 7:00 pm yesterday. I took the hood off the jeep at 9:00. The rebuild has started...

    I did start a build thread when I bought it, I'll begin updating it soon.

    In one of the stranger incidents I've seen, my buddy accidentally ran over my hood a couple times out in arizona earlier this year.
    At a small festival earlier this year, I was driving around on site and, playing around on the hills too. Drove around with the windshield folded down the first day. Second day I just took it off and put it in the back of his Tacoma. Later on that afternoon I was having alternator trouble, so to charge the battery I took the hood off and put cables on the the battery. Something came up we all wanted to rush down to, so we pulled the cables off the Jeep and drove it down from our seculded camp. Being that we had his truck parked next to the jeep hood (on the ground), in a dead end camp, in an area no one drove around in except me, we thought the hood would be fine on the ground. I left the Jeep parked outside of camp (too tired to wheel it back).

    Later that night someone in our group fell off a small hill and injured their ankle. My buddy with the Tacoma is an EMT, and brought all his stuff, so he rushed into his truck and drove out there to check on the guy who fell. In the adrenaline rush he forgot about the hood and did a three point turn on top of it. He heard the noise and wondered what on earth was going out on his truck.None of us saw it until we woke up the next morning.

    The hood is still sitting at his place in vegas while I decide what to do with it. Until then, here's the pics that I have left on my phone.
