It definitely looks like a worn out pivot stud but it isn't near the clutch bell crank. Reading above I learned about the engine stay cable. Of course the cable is missing from this jeep.

Totally different "control lever and tube" was used with the early style floor mount pedals.

Perhaps a search for "Rubber Clutch Fork Boot" would get you some sources--if that is your mentioned "peek hole".

Is that "stud/nipple on your bell housing on your 1959 CJ5; Drivetrain: F4-134, T90-A1, T-18?

Yep! Driver side. I'm beginning to think the bell housing is from some other vehicle.

There is a opening to see the clutch on the passengers side. I'll look for a boot for this early CJ5 but I haven't seen one listed anywhere. Maybe someone can snap a picture of a restored '59?

Mark, this picture shows the side cover on my CJ5.

Here is a picture of the side cover. Is this what you are looking for?

Yep I think that's it. But on the driver side is where the clutch fork comes out. Do you know if there was a rubber boot like later CJ's?

And now I'm reminded what is the black breather looking cap below the sisters? Mine says SW on it. Yours is painted black.

Yes driver side would be awesome.

Here is a picture from the driver's side. I don't have a boot that covers the clutch fork and the opening in the bellhousing. My housing does have the opening for the stud/nipple shown on Mike's.

That is what it is. A breather cap that has a piece of felt under it.

That's not an inspection port, it's for the clutch fork on right hand drive vehicles. I made one out os a chunk of sheet metal based on these pics-

That makes some sense. I've never seen a right hand steering CJ5. So was it intended to be left open or did it come with a cover originally?

You really don't want any foreign debris to get in there so cover it.

Looks simple enough for even a guy like me to fab one.

Interesting that my cable goes into the bellhousing and connects to the clutch fork.

IMG_2427.JPG This has me curious, both sides of my 70' have holes in the same spot. Was there a badge that was on it or did some PO place holes there for some unknown reason.

That's to let the "E" in Jeep drain when it gets wet from a stream crossing...:rofl::rofl:

Along the same line--think the question is--Why did PO need a hole right there of all places?

Someone posted pics if a Jeep a bit ago that had 2 vertical bars mounted around the same area, but I can't remember what they were for? It wasn't factory.
