What's the piece that extends off the axle (no not the tire :susp:) and more importantly, can I delete it? My disc brake is hitting it.

Judging by the amount of lift you have, it’s not doing anything (yes you can delete it), but I would lower your bumpstop by the amount of lift your springs have. They’re not doing anything either and could allow your springs to over-arch.

It’s a torque bar of sorts to prevent your driveshaft from coming in contact with your bellhousing under hard braking (at stock height).

Its a needle jerk. I helped my uncle build his ‘86 Suzuki samurai and it had those fittings on the u joints.

"Hard braking" is a bit of an oxymoron in our world if it's a stock jeep. :D

The OP is talking about about the limiter on the axle not a bleeder valve on the caliper..

Walt, I think he was referring to post #1016...

It may be time to start a second "What the heck is this" thread...

I kinda know what it is. EGR valve. But how does it work? Does it take exhaust directly from the exhaust manifold and put it into the intake manifold? How do I get rid of it?

Under certain operating conditions the EGR system introduced exhaust gas to the intake to reduce peak combustion temperatures, and minimize the formation of smog gases, as I recall.

There is an internal passage in the intake manifold that directs exhaust gas into the intake. When you apply vacuum to the EGR valve, the pintle (a cylinder that protrudes from the valve) retracts, and opens the passage for exhaust gas. As Pete points out, the exhaust gas is depleted of oxygen, and mixing it with the intake reduces the combustion temperature. Lower combustion temperature means fewer oxides of nitrogen NOx in the exhaust. NOx is one of the major components of photochemical smog.

    Yeah....
Yes , you can eliminate an EGR but it changes your vacume parameters. There is a Block off plate for this. Search that & It will most likely coach you in how to make your engine run correctly without it. .

Been lurking this thread a little. I think I have one to identify. Clues = rubber, fit into approx 5/16 hole. Found under the hood. Found in triangle shaped pattern. Head diameter is about 1/2 inch. OEM from the CJ5 in my profile. (Donny, let me know if you want them). CAM00582-1.jpg CAM00579-1.jpg CAM00578-1.jpg

Hood buffer/bumpers? I thinks the early Kaiser Jeeps used welting on the grill top/leading edge, but the later Kaisers 68-71? May have had these bumpers instead of the welting. The AMC Jeeps may have used these on the lower front corners of the hood near the hood hold-downs.
Lee, I don't need these, but thanks!

Those don't look right for hood bumpers, unless they are shoddy aftermarket parts. Have to go now, but I can get a pic of the factory hood bumpers later.

Clue : They are bumpers. Soft rubber of about 70 durometer. Found on driver side inside fender well near the rear curved area. Holes are about 4 inches apart. I DO NOT know what they are, but assume they are OEM due to have been inserted into stamped (not drilled) holes. Donny, they came from the holes in the fender I sent you. What are they? I'VE never seen them before.

It's possible someone went to the hardware store and bought these to plug the holes.

I did something similar to my ventilating windshield'wiper motor holes.
