As said before, it's a stay cable. It's a safety feature to keep the engine and fan from shifting into the radiator.

Why do you say that? It takes no space and little weight. I'll leave it just ''cause.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the engineers who designed these things were probably not complete idiots, if they felt it necessary to have one there then I'll them the benefit of a doubt that they are actually there for a good reason.

Totally agree! And who knows, maybe over the years it has done it's job and we, or others don't even know it. :coffee:

Clearly the cable (and other "superfluous" features) were not added arbitrarily. I'd imagine testing (either by the factories or unknowing owners) identified a problem, and the cable was added to remedy it. If you remove it, you may never encounter the situation where it is needed. Or you might.

Hi - Sorry, I was away from home and could not respond earlier.

That bracket is shown clearly in the '70s parts book. It is listed as part of the frame assembly, and not available as a separate service part. I think it's way too far forward for a transfer case snubber. Could possibly be a mount for the snubber with a 4-speed, but I doubt it. And it's overbuilt for a transfer case snubber bracket.

The transfer of my '80s book is poor, but it kinda shows there. Looks like it accepts a rubber bumper that contacts the front axle housing near the pinion. This would be Jeep PN 5354848 axle housing front windup pinion bumper.

I believe that is for a wooden slat for the original soft top. My 55 has it - it has always been the review mirror mount for me.

20190127_220330_resized.jpg These lockers aren't original are they?
Looks like they might have been pulled from a Scout with a Dana 25.
Anyone familiar with these? Are they basically the same thing as the Warn lockers that came on early CJ5s with Dana 25s?
