Narrow Dana 30

I have found a narrow dana 30 out of a 79 CJ7 which has 3.07 gears. I would like to pick this up to possibly put under a flat fender but need to know if it can be regeared to 4.89 to match my flanged dana 44?

I don't need the axel, as I have a fully rebuild Dana 27 on the project now. Just thinking if I can get it at the right price and it can be easily geared to match my rear, I might pick it up for a future swap.

    What are your thoughts?

    Thanks

Randys ring and pinion has 4:88 gear sets but you will need different carrier as the break is at 3:54.

    Very easily done.
    Just costs $$.

Don't know if everyone has had the same results as myself, but I've busted more stuff in 27's than in 25's. And 30's are a BIG step up from either, both strength wise and in aftermarket support. Like Mike said, you will need another carrier but if you are thinking about a good traction devise, it's a non-issue for the most part.

Actually, you will need a new case. The carrier is the cast part the axle tubes are pressed into.
The gear ratio break on the case is 2:54(whatever) down to 3:54 and then 3:73 down to 5:38 on most Dana 30's (including CJ units).
