Mounts are done. The exhaust gaskets should be here today. High-temp paint is drying.

Here’s a shot of the underside with the tailpipe attached. Note the bung for an O2 sensor on the inlet. I used that section of pipe in case I ever swap in a newer engine that needs a post-cat sensor. Easier now than later. I hollowed out an old sensor and welded it shut to plug the hole.

Since o2 sensors do not like water (condensation) I believe you should relocate the bung to a position somewhere above horizontal (o2 sensor mfg's state this repeatedly in their data). Also, you should consider replicating the location similar to the OEM position. That far down stream in the exhaust will probably require a heated sensor which isn't a problem in itself as there are numerous heated sensors available. The distance down stream can effect the operation of the computer though as believe it or not, the computer expects to receive the data in a timely manner. Again, not a major problem but could lead to the need of a minor tune adjustment of the computer tune.

    Thanks for the tips.

This setup already has a pre-cat O2 sensor directly in the manifold that it uses. This is just for the (unlikely) event down the road where I’d install a newer engine that also needs a post-cat reading. If it becomes an issue when (if) that day comes, I’ll know where to go first! :)

If it helps, I know the bung is on the bottom of the pipe, but it’s on the uphill end of the cat, under the crossmember.

Ryan, as far as the emission system is concerned, being on the uphill side of the cat has no bearing. It is on the downhill side of the muffler which will generate condensation and water will run into the sensor located like that.

I totally get what you're saying. The bung itself protrudes into the pipe 3/8", and the pipe passes well into the muffler. It would take some serious flooding to get there.
Again, just planning for something that will probably never happen, so I'll cross that bridge if it comes. 20 minutes with a hole saw and welder will make it right.

I was looking back through this thread for a pic, and saw this post from 5 months ago. Everything in this list is done. Getting closer!!

Exhaust gaskets are in, and it sounds perfect. Quiet, but throaty, like a mini-Flowmaster or Borla. Probably doesn’t flow as well, but who cares.

Here are the mounts. I placed one horizontally to keep side-to-side movement under control. I hate hearing a muffler thump against something, and there isn’t much clearance around this.

I started on the wiring. I’m beginning at the passenger’s side front. The very first wire I chose to delete was one I needed. :steamed: I’m sure that won’t be the last time I do that.

I really wish that wiring guru from Project Binky would show up and do this for me.

    Do real Jeeps have Cats?...

Can I borrow your EMC? I think the one in my Volvo has died again. Fuel pump relay...

It’s time to just hand that off to a new owner. :sneak:

That’s ok, your little 240 distributor wouldn’t fit beside my fancy alternator mount.

Not a problem since I found the problem with my Volvo. It wasn't the EMC it was the fuel pump 25 AMP fuse. The fuse holder which is in the engine compartment and faces up corroded in the rain forest...

    The car just won't die...

It only takes three fuses and one relay for this engine to run.

It filled a 22 gallon tote!

I planned on using the car’s harness for the lights, wipers, horn, etc,... but the way Volvo runs and interconnects their wiring was maddening. One fuse would control the LF turn signal, RR parking light and the engine compartment light. I tore it all out. I’ll re-wire the rest later.
