Hello again! I have been looking and looking for pictures or a bracket for sale that covers this hole for my steering column in the floor. It looks as if there is a plate that bolts down, is this something that was done by a PO or is that hole supposed to be that large. The edges are rolled so it seems factory. It's been bugging me a lot lately and I would appreciate some input so I can know for sure and make something if need be. Thanks!

What does the bottom of your steering column look like? In your picture I see the steering shaft. Over which slides the column tube. Mine has a plate welded to the bottom of the column tube. The tube extends into the engine compartment about an inch and has a bushing. The plate is large enough to cover the odd shaped hole. It is fastened with 3 or 4 bolts.

I'm at work now but I can send a picture later today.

My steering tube doesn't have any plate on it, it's just the tube with the clamp at the bottom to tighten onto the top of the Ross box. It has the original rubber grommet but that's all. But it sounds like that is the piece I am missing. A picture would be very helpful!

It's a 70. Still no luck tracking one down. Looked on about every website. Just sent off an email to jwjeeps and willysoverland in hopes they have one. Thanks for the help everyone.

If it were mine, and somebody could get me a picture of an unmolested 1970, I'd attempt to make a replacement.

Take a piece of cardboard & cut to fit, then transfer to some sheet metal & make one.

Here's a repo floor. You could buy the top portion. It's a little more simple than the stock setup

....course, a piece of project sheet metal from Home Depot and a pair of tin snips and you could knock that out pretty quick. It's only got one break in it that you could do by hand in a vise...Basically, what Howard said.
