It looks like an early electric Borg-Warner overdrive that would bolt to the back of a T-89 or similar transmission.

These were used in a lot of different cars, including Willys apparently. Interesting, but you don't want it.

My guess from the numbers on the case is that is a R7. Pretty early version of the Borg Warner OD. I believe the units Rancho adapted were R10 or R11's like the one in Tim's picture. It is highly unlikely you could adapt that to a D18, at least not without a lot of custom machine work. I believe Herm still has a few rebuilt Rancho type units available but those do not work in 4x4 like the Warn/Saturn OD's. That said, no reason you couldn't put both in if you have a big engine and room for a rear driveshaft.

Well, as always, thank you guys. Guess I won't be making the trip to Tacoma after all!

Medium-duty Saginaw 3-speed with OD, not worth crossing the street for in a Jeep application IMHO.

Picture is from the Fordification site - the OP is looking at a bare R7 overdrive. Just FYI.

    Yeah, I don't see a Saginaw 3 speed?

Right, actually looks a little shorter than the R-10 I used to have.
Still not worth the effort, IMO.
