Need ideas for Roll Cage Frame tie ins

How about going down at an angle behind the rear wheels?

I bought a 6 point tie in kit from 4WD.com that I haven't used yet. It uses tubing to tie it into the frame. I felt the same way about the tube being in the way when in a flex situation. I guess I will find out this summer when I install the kit.

 

My cage ties in the back just behind the wheel, and up directly underneath the rear down post. No issue with wheel travel. It's tight, but works ok. I sandwiched a piece of 1/4 rubber under the roll bar plate that sits on top of the wheel well, and another rubber strip under the wheel well between the body and a 1/4" steel plate that is 2 inches wider and 3" longer than the upper plate (to help reduce stress by having the plates the same size). This roll cage rubber sandwich simulates the isolation you get with the body mounting rubber you use for the rest of the tub. Anyhow, positioning the rear frame tie-in directly under the down tube will transfer energy directly into the frame. Up front, the front hoop ties into an additional frame support that I made using plate steel. You can see these perches here, off my web site...
