Engine is long to start

    I've an issu with my amc 360, since two week now, when engine is at normal temperature it can be very long (5-6 seconde) before engine start.
    I can see black smoke comming out of exhaust when it finish by starting. Before it was always starting after 1-2 second. Also yesterday i replace the small filter before the carburator.

    Any input on was can cause that?

    Stock carb? Could be gas leaking from the carb into the motor when off. Making it flood out. Do you have to open the throttle to get it to start?

    Hum, it's seem to help when i open it....if you're on the facebook group i just post a video there (jean-michel gagnon).
    yesterday when trying to climb some rock engine stop and it was hard to start. It does the same thing when i'm on the ground.

    Maybe a carb rebuild is in order. The link is not working.

    Sounds like carb is flooding. I'd start by looking at the float needle valve and see if some debris got in there holding the valve open slightly. This can cause the fuel level to rise after shut off causing flooding. Especially since there will be too much fuel in the float bowl to begin with.

    Black smoke = rich, a.k.a. flooding.
    If you're confident enough to get into the carb I’d start by checking float level.

    Hum, that something possible, yesterday i needed to change the small filter need the carb, maybe some dirt get into the carb and get the float bowl open...

    I had trouble 2 week ago and i cleaned the carb, maybe i did something wrong...

    I would just spring for a complete carb rebuild kit with a new float. Do it up right, that way you know the float is not sunk and get all the settings back to proper spec.
    It sound likely to be float/ needle related but make sure your choke is set up correctly and all your air bleeds, jets, and passages are clean.

    I've call yesterday for the rebuilt kit, it's about 90$ so yesterday is dissemble the whole thing , clean it and i replace some part with some from a spare carb. Now it's seem to start faster even at normal temperature operation. Next trail i'll now if it fix. Also when dissemble it 1 srew that hold the top plate was loose, and 2 srew that hold the accelertion pump where loose too...maybe the problem come from there.
