Tell me this will fit ...

aallison 74 cj6, 76 cj5. Has anyone seen my screwdriver?

I will need a top for a 6 fiberglass tub. For what they cost, I would expect them to fit fairly well. From what I see, I'm thinking it might be worth it to get a custom top........

Hope you get it on Tim.

Tim, this is a pain in the butt.. I have put on 3,4 best tops. one with chanels and the rest had the snaps. The latest one was on a 69,5. I had the same prob. With the bows up, and the top on it looked like I was about 3" short in the back. I took the back bow out of the adjustting holes and lowered it as far down as I could and was still short. what I ended up doing was loosening the windshield frame and pulling on the top from the back, I was able to stretch it enough to snap it on (of course it was a very hot sunny day, and I let the top sit in the sun a few hours). I then snaped all the side snaps and retightend the windshield down, then raised the bow to the bottom hole. my windshield now rest against my roll bar at the windshield but im dry and warm.
with these jeeps being so old and how they are used, and modified I find it hard to go by the instructions. Thats what worked for me, Good luck!!! Oh, the jeep in my pic is the one I did this to.

Have you tried putting the rear bow in the first hole? I had a similar issue with the Tigertop on my '2A, and that's what I had to do to make it fit. I also pushed the middle bow back so it wasn't in contact with the roof so that gave me a little more slack as well. Once I had everything snapped into place and it warmed up in the sun a bit I could push the middle bow back up into place. Mine had a web strap to go around the front bow and up to the footman loop on the windshield frame so the door rods would stay in place.

It still took some doing, but it eventually worked out OK.

Well, I got a response from Bestop. They were very courteous and polite, but basically they said the top is what it should be and I'm not trying hard enough.

Not sure what I will do at this point. Hopefully we'll get some dry, warm days this weekend, and I'll try mocking up some changes to see how they affect the fit.

Tim, could you drop the rear bow all the way down and get it to snap up. then stretch the top up with the bow, assuming it's warm enough, just a thought

The way the top "pockets" the rear bow, where it is supposed to ride is where there is the most space. You cannot move the rear bow, either into or out of position once the top is snapped in place.

Sorry to hear that your new top is now "your problem". I too had trouble getting my top to fit. Since mine was about 30 years old I attributed the poor fit to other things besides the top. I had to do two things to get even close. 1- drop the center bow down to the bottom of the mount and drill new holes for the cross pins. 2- shorten the back bow by using hose clamps to secure it in the new collapsed position. Over time I have been able to extend the rear bow length by pushing the bow out and clamping it in the new position. I think I gained about an inch as it stretched. Not a very elegant solution but the top does fit and the doors work too. These mods are reversible if the top decides to behave.

Good luck with your new top, hope you get it figured out before the snow flies :)

Did you have any luck getting the top installed? What did you do to (hopefully) get it installed?

If it's any consolation I waited too long to put mine on and now it won't stretch enough to fit. I had it on all last year until the summer time. Gotta do the same, wait for the sun to come back out so I can stretch it enough to snap in place.

Well, I have a heated garage, but with the top on and the lift and the tall tires, I'm really close to being too tall to go in the garage. I've already had to chop part of the connecting bracket between the closer and the door to get the Jeep in. I think it will fit, but it will be darn close ... and the sunshine will raise the fabric temp better than my heaters. But I'm not stuck for the winter if I don't get a warm, sunny day soon.

Let some of the air out of the tires to get it in and out if necessary?

Thought about it ... but it might fit. Haven't tried to scoot it in slowly yet.

Ok, so it's on mostly. It's snapped down at the edges, but it still has issues. More details tomorrow.

Guys, do your doors fit better than this?

The shape of the doors is just not the same as the door openings.
