first, according to my book the rear tapered hubs are only torqued to 150 lbs. also is this just a dust cap of some type or is there suppose to be some kind of seal inside it. by the way this isnt the one for my wheel, its a extra one i have laying around, ex View attachment 36374 plains the rust.seal cap.JPG

The tapered hubs don't have a bearing. The axle bearing is inboard of the backing plate. The cap is just that, a cap to keep dust grime etc off the castle nut and threads.

im talking about the hub seal cover, its behind the hub, but after the hub seal. and is the 150 lbs. the correct torque for the nut. id attach a picture but dont seem to be able to. ill post it in my garage pictures.

Your attachment doesn't work. On the rear tapered axle assy you will have hub then a grease protector then a gasket then a grease retainer then another gasket then the backing plate. HTH

I believe he,s talking about the wheel bearing's outer seal, just behind the brake backing plate. If that's what you're talking about those are 3/8 fine thread bolts and the torque shouldn't be very high. wouldn't know exactly.

thats the problem here, ii cant attach any pics, it has a red X through that option, dont know why. any way its the cup that covers the hub seal, right behind the hub and is a over flow in case any oil or grease gets past the seal it will deflect it out the bottom and through the hole at the bottom of the backing plate.

Since the site was hacked a while back attachments have been disabled. You need to get a photobucket account or something similar and link the pics from there to here. Photobucket is free.

The nut that on the axle shaft, holds the round thing that the WHEEL studs are on, (the BIG arse nut), may well be 150 FT lbs.
The backing plate where the brake pads are held on and holds the axle outter grease seal, (around the axle tube) MAYBE be 150 INCH lbs, (13 ft lbs).
litely grease on the axle shaft part that the studs are on, where the seals rides, and grease the lip of the seal before it all goes together.
    How's that??:D

The backing plate nuts are torqued to 25-35 lb-ft. as per FSM. The axle (big nut) torques at 150 lb-ft minimum. Doesnt give a max.

Do you guys put RTV on the metal grease retainer / paper gaskets? Doesn't look like metalshaper does in his video but Moses Ludel says "use where appropriate on vital parts."
