11" backing plate question

    I'm thinking about taking my D18 drum brake off and replacing it will rear drum ebrakes. When I converted to 11s though I only had front backing plates available.

    I'm looking for a pic of a nornal rear plate.

    not to hijack your thread but are you saying you can use front backing plates on the rear? and if so what drum did you use? cant help on the picture:rofl:

    yes, you can; drums are the same for 11" brakes.
    but that means no provision for parking brake cables, as the angled holes aren't in the front backing plates.
    and the rear backing plates then become side specific; one for the left, and one for the right, as the hole for the cable is side specific.
    The only difference is the hole for the brake cables between fornt and rear backing plates.
    You could use as an alternative the D18 EB assy or add a line lock somewhere in the system.

    Line locks are a good idea until one of your wheel cylinders or brake lines develop a leak in the system. We had an old diesel forklift that used a linelock. It worked great, until a brake line blew. Lucky for us that when the forklift rolled it only hit a unit of lumber.:shock:

    I've converted non-parking brake backing plates to take the cable, not too hard to do with a little scrap metal & a little welding.

    Hmmmm. I will have to take a look at that '63 wagoneer frame in the back yard and see what brakes are on it.

    Just my 2 cents worth.....I LOVE the transfer mounted parking brake! It is a cool old shooll piece of iron. That being said...I haven't finished my 56 yet, so my opinion may change.

    You'll love it untill it hangs up on a rock in the middle of the trail thats on a steep hill.

  13. Same here I bent several wheeling before trashing them. Their usually soaked in oil anyway.

    I believe that's what the skid plate is for?:) It will also protect things like the transfer case pan. At least on the transfer case it's up high unlike the park brake cables at the wheels that hang down and catch sticks, rocks, and other assorted things. Even caught a snake once with the ones on the Scout I had.

    Did ya wrap the snake in Al. foil and cook it on the manifold? Good trail lunch!

    Thought about it but the wife said I'd be sleeping on the couch if I did!R) I've had rattlesnake before though. Wasn't bad, wasn't great.
