I will let you know more as soon as I get a call from the owner.
What axles come on a 79Cherokee? Would it be an easy swap onto a CJ?

Dana 44, front and rear. I'm assuming this is a narrow track Cherokee - the axles are a popular swap to CJs. I don't know much specifically; I think the springs are typically outboarded. DanStew was looking at this - ask him. Typically they are 3.07 or 3.31 gears though.

The CJ factory T-18A comes with its own special bellhousing and only with an I6 engine. My question, can I swap a 304 or a 360 onto the T-18A factory bellhousing? Is it a straight bolt up or do I need modifications? Thanks

Yup, direct bolt up. The disc is the same spline count as a T-150 and the engine bolt pattern is the same on the AMC I-6 as the V-8's. Shouldn't have any problems there. The pilot bushing is the same for the CJ T-18 as the T-150 also. Found one used, but unfortunately no bellhousing, and have been comparing them. Nickmil.

Thank you Nick, Tomorrow I will be picking up a 79 cj7 with a factory T-18A (the one I told you about awhile ago). I also have been looking at a 360 engine. Again thanks.

If you end up with the 360 and need the motor mounts that bolt to the frame to change from the I-6 to the V-8 I have a pair for the V-8 that are glass beaded and painted black. Let me know if you need them. I can't remember if you currently have a V-8 or I-6. Nickmil.

I don’t currently own a V-8, but I’m looking into buying one from a guy that’s “thinking about selling” I’m just giving him some time to think. If I do buy the 8 then yes I would like the motor mounts. I’m sure they look good and I will let you know as soon as I can.

It has been believed that a T-18A only came behind a 258. I found this statement in a 79 Jeep brochure.
“An optional 304 2-bbl V8 engine with 4–speed floor mounted transmission is also available”.

hopefully i can add some more usefull info ;) i also did a t-18a swap into my jeep. originaly had a t-15/d20/304 combo. i had a t-150 bellhousing allready, and i bought a t-18a that was in a '78 cj-7. it was a direct bolt in with these changes.... pilot bushing, cross-member move and drive shafts.

this article was a great help in what to look for when i was shoping for the parts.

jamgeer (karl), you should give me a call ( seeing as we are in the same town ) as i think you have a trany/tcase combo frome a full size truck or wag. if this is the case, this will never fit into your '5 length wise.
