I thought it was discussed, and you wanted a hard top...You can't scrape the frost off of soft top windows. And you'll always be worried about too much snow stretching it. And you can't lock a soft top...

    yeah
i looked into it and the soft top was going to cost more than a hard one with none of the advantages you mentioned.

Did this mod last night. What a great upgrade. Thanks for all the pics to motivate me! Probably one of the best bang-for-the-buck upgrades that I've done.

i was thinking about this thread today as i was tooling along and realized that every window in my jeep was not only defrosted but dry and almost warm to the touch.
not bad for a steel box going down the road ...

Yup. It's like driving a whole new HEEP. I've been telling the guys at work about it all day. I think they're tired of hearing about how great it is.

    Little tech note:

I decided to run both my coolant hoses through the same hole in the firewall. I used a hole saw to drill out two holes close together, then used a dremel to clean up the space inbetween to make an oval. Once I got both hoses through, I realized that the chafing was probably going to cut through the hoses over time.

At first I thought I would try a piece of door edge guard. Needing to test my theory quickly, I yanked one off the fam hauler. Unfortunately, the edge guard was way to stiff to bend in such a small radius, even after trying to heat with a lighter. Oh well, I didn't like them on the fam hauler, anyway.

The solution was much cheaper. I used a razor to slit a piece of flexible vacuum advance hose lengthwise. I applied the hose to the edge of the sheet metal and it squeezed into place perfectly. Might work for you guys in place of a grommet.

I ducted one port to the driver side where it just dumps on the floor. The other one I hooked to this. One side dumps on the passenger floor with a swiveling valve so I can turn it down/ off, the other one points at me....Works well.

For the firewall - I found some grommets off a 4Runner that worked well:

I misread. Clint was talking about the firewall penetration for the hoses.....
I ran mine thru a short piece of radiator hose pushed into the firewall in an oblong hole. Works well, but It's too cold to get a pic now.;)

I just got my summit heater last week and started the install. I am having custom brackets built for mine and while waiting... well... I couldn't so I hooked it up on the floor and turned it on. Wow! This thing is fantastic. I drove around in this last snowstorm with my soft top and 15 below zero temps and had to turn it down! For anyone thinking about a heater this thing is the way to go!:)

Same question, only regarding the fresh intake coming off the cowl for a later model.

If the Summit heater is the only heater, and not an aux heater, then how can I avoid having it rain or snow inside the Jeep? I wouldn't want to block it off by welding it shut, so could I just disassemble my factory heater setup and re-install only the fresh air plenum, leaving the hose that goes through the firewall to discard any moisture, and perhaps have a fresh air supply to the cab, if not the new heater?

i took my stock heater off except for the plenium.
and duct taped that shut for the winter.

at -10f the last thing i want is fresh air!
