drilled drums

    A center drill should work fine.

    If not you can use a small 1/8" diameter ball endmill.

    With each of these you only spot the hole about a 1/16" to 1/8" deep and then change to the proper drill bit.

    Center drills as pictured are exactly what I used (didn't know they were centerdrills, I got them at my local tool shop ,York Tool Warehouse).
    I used them to drill each hole through. Ran the press fairly slow, used plenty of lube.

    Well, sure, if you have access to a Bridgeport and a dividing head, do it yourself! But I don't, and I don't have a drill press, or a place to put one. I'll ask on the local 4x4 board if there's any CO shops that can do it.

    Why not make a jig out of some 2X4s and c clamps. Center punch each hole and use the regular electric drill (I would use a powerful one) and work on the floor. May take longer, but should get the same results.

    I have a BIG drill press in my shop I am going to use, but for those less privileged, you really still can do it yourself, with out one.
