Does anyone know why my 1978 CJ5 is leaning towards the driver side--could it be the shocks or springs?

    Thanks

Do you only have one shoe on????

    Sorry,

    Happy Gilmore reference.

Either springs or maybe the frame is tweaked.

Mine does, too. I've read here previously that they came from the factory that way. The dealerships would cut the high side's body mounts in half to fix the lean.

    PR66,
To find out where the lean is coming from, you will have to take measurements from a few points on each side of the CJ to find out where the discrepancy is. Park it on a hard flat surface. Make sure all tires are inflated to the same pressure. Measure from all of the spring bushings to grade. Measure from the body mounting points on each side to grade. Measure from various points on both sides of the frame to grade. Sooner or later you will find out where the problem is. You might even find more than one measurement that is not even on both sides.

    Hope this helps,

Mm...that would have been tough as the original body mounts were just a strip of tire rubber.

I thought the same thing. It would be far easier to just add to the low side than to remove the high side mounts, cut them down, then re-install.

My girlfriends dads 74 has a slight lean too. I am going to have to read the above mentioned thread now.

It is so slight, it looks like the front drivers side tire is low, but all have same pressure.

I have no idea. That is repeated from posts I've read before on this topic.

    Strider380 Can I have a zip tie?

mine had bad body mounts causing the front clip to sag. I welded in channels for new subframeing. what a difference.

My '78 leans to the drivers side too. I figure it just gives it more characterR)

The '72 Renegade I am working on had the lean also. I found it was being caused by the triangular front body mount being broken causing the body to lean left. It is the piece that attaches to the angular floorboard (one on each side) and attaches to the hat channel on the bottom. The body mount is also part of this. This was the cause in my CJ - yours may be different.

Mine did too. I fixed it with a piece of tire rubber and a bolt.. Not perfect, but much better.

So does mine. But it is probably due to the fact that my passenger side floor and supports are rotted away.:(

Yep. Seems to be a factory thing. I found where my frame had the discrepancy, and fixed it...
