Narrow Track Dana 44

I found a set of narrow track dana 44's from a 72 CJ. Whats the difference between narrow track and regular? what these swap into my flattie? I know the rear isn't offset for the xfer case.

 

In around '82-'83 Jeep widened the axles a couple of inches and became "wide track" vs. the earlier narrower axles that are referred to as "narrow track". What Danstew said. Jeep never used a 44 front in a CJ but it could be a custom axle. Nickmil

 

Are they narrow track CJ axles or narrow track FSJ axles? I think the FSJ had narrow track 44's, before they went to wide track, but they are wider than narrow CJ axles.

i have a "narrow track" 30 (cj '79-80) in the front of my mb. it's 54" give or take 1/2"

i have a "nt" 44 (waggy '??) offset, 2 piece axles in the rear and it's 59" give or take 1/2". 2nd or 3rd owner on this one so don't know the yr it came out of.

 

what year rang jeep has the offset pumpkin but it a Dana 44?

 

The "narrow track" FSJ axles were used in the Wagoneer, 4-door full-size Cherokees, and some 2-door full size Cherokees. There's a "wide track" Cherokee that has steel fender flares - in fact it shares the front axle and front fenders with the J-10 pickup. The rear axle for a WT Cherokee is a unique width, since the J-10s have an even wider rear track (that allows a 4x8 sheet of plywood to lie flat in the bed).

The axle widths are listed on www.jeeptech.com on the factory axles page - but it appears to be down right now.

 

do u guys the the stock axles will handle 33x14

 

That depends allot on your driving style.

To me, that means no.

 

Let me put it this way.. I had a friend that ran SOA with 35's and lockers doing extreme trails with stock flatty axles and no problem. I have also known people that break them running 31's on moderate trails.. Like I said, it all depends on your driving style.
