Just started my project a 67 CJ5 I hauled out of the woods I have a ways to go but I wanted to pick some brains. I need to move the seat back or shorten to steering column cause I'm 6'6" and just dont fit. By the way I'm the new guy here and am addicted already. Just brace yourselves for more stupid question. First, Welcome from Portland, OR!
Second, fill out profile so we know where you are at. Who knows, someone may be right around the corner that can help!

Third, there is a modification called a "fender notch" where the rear fender is notched out so the seat can be moved back. Try the search function, it should be on there somewhere as this has been covered and some members have done it. Haven't myself as I'm just under 5' 10"R) . A smaller steering wheel is helpful also if you have power steering. The type of seats can make a big difference also as can installing a tilt steering column and going to saginaw steering (if you don't have it already).

    4th, Ask away! Nickmil

    Welcome from K!.

FWIW, there's links from the main page of the site to a couple "wheelhouse notch" resources.

Well, since the Kansanites are get’n their “howdy’s” in, here’s one from SE Kansas.
The PO of my Jeep notched the drivers side rear fender well before I got it. Good thing too, at 6’1” I can’t imagine trying to fit in it otherwise.

welcome from Indiana. trial and error is the best way to do the notch. I took out about 2" (am 6').

Welcome. I'm 6' 7" and fit just fine in my '70 CJ5 with notched wheel wells. Stock steering wheel, stock petals, bucket seats.

I have the same problem. I'm 6' 5" and two hundred and too heavy pounds :) . Here are a few things I've done to my Jeep to alleviate the problems caused by my height. Keep in mind that these mods haven't been road tested yet and that I'm putting them here for inspiration (Or to be mocked  ).

    1. I made the pedals sit about an inch closer to the floorboards by cutting an extra groove closer to the bend. Make sure the clutch can still disengage after doing this.

    2. Adding spacers to the bolts in the back of the seat. By raising the back of the seat I was able to move the seat a few inches farther back. The green arrow is pointing to the spacer and the black arrow is pointing towards where the seat was coming into contact with the wheel well before adding the spacer.

Both of these mods have given me a little more legroom but by raising the back of the seat up the tops of my legs are now coming into contact with the steering wheel, But it's an alternative to cutting your wheelwells.
